Really looking forward to your review. Unlike some reviewers who get over enthusiastic about the latest gadget you are completely trustworthy and fair. I currently have both 40-150 and 300 pro lenses. This lens could make one or other redundant possibly even though it's not a fully pro lens. I just know I won't afford the 150-400 so you're review will be very important.

I'll do a fair and honest field review. So I think you'll be able to make a good decision for yourself. Thanks for your comments!

Great to see the lens. I got one on order from my local camera store. I am looking forward to seeing your field review.

I have preordered this lens from B&H. I am glad to see a solid lens hood. I thought that I was the only one who had problems with the 40-150mm lens hood. Your remark on the hood proved that I am not alone with a broken hood.
@GodwitMediaLLC4 жыл бұрын
No you are not alone it is a well know design flaw. It's a good idea just not built sturdy enough. I ended up buying a $10 rubber lens hood from Amazon. I wish Olympus would fix the lens hood though

@@GodwitMediaLLC I purchased a metal screw in hood from Amazon.

Thanks Tim for your excellent content. When you test the stabilisation tomorrow please don’t forget the em1.2 and 1.3, and em1x with a firmware update will allow the camera ibis and lens ois to work together - it’s different to the 300 and 12-100. But the option is still there. Thanks again. Looking forward to seeing your results. My lens is still on pre-order.

I have the M1 Mark III and the M1X so I'll try that. The M1 MarkIII I updated yesterday. More fun things to try. Thanks!

Looking forward to your field test. I have had the lens for a few weeks and really like it. I leave lens and body IS both on, no issues. The lens hood I thought was loose to start then realised I hadn’t fully attached it - there is some resistance at the end to lock it on and then it is rock solid. I think there is a little more play in the lens mount compared to my 300F4 but I don’t think it is an issue, I sometimes notice a slight movement when zooming though.

Always love a nice new bit of gear particularly a lens, going for a 135mm f1.8 myself probably next for my wildlife photography.

I have a G85 and was wondering if it’s worth it for us Panasonic peeps to go in for this. Could you maybe do a comparison sometime between the Oly 100-400 and it’s pan-Leica counterpart?
@GodwitMediaLLC4 жыл бұрын
Do you know how I can get the pan-Leica lens for reviewing it? It's a good idea but I don't know anyone with that lens.

Looking forward to your testing, but some clarification on the IS. You don't have to choose either lens or in-body stabilization. They do work together, but it is not full sync-is. The lens handles pitch and yaw, while the IBIS handles rotation.

Got it, thanks I re-read the lens info Thanks!

I've been interested since it's announced but how well does it handle cropping compared to the 300mm f4. And is it a true 400mm 👍 Good luck

Tim, great stuff, long time m43 shooter here as well. I also have a youtube channel. Anyway, I am curious about this lens. Is there any contact I can reach out to in order to get a loaner lens ? Really interested in the 2x tc/1.4 tc with it. I mainly shoot the 100-400 Panasonic. Reach is a big deal with me. Thanks Stafford !

Try your local camera store, Olympus was offering good trial deals through stores, not sure about the new OM-Digital Solutions.

Got mine this afternoon! That lens collar is a bit heavy, so off it came.
@GodwitMediaLLC4 жыл бұрын
I was amazed at how light the lens was.
@ReginakDale4 жыл бұрын
@@GodwitMediaLLC However, it is heavier than the Leica 100-400mm. I returned the lens. For the types of photography I do, I did not see enough of an improvement over the Leica lens to make it worth the expense or weight increase. Instead, I bought an Olympus 12-100mm to round out my trio. I also have the Olympus 40-150mm Pro.

I'm waiting for the 150-400 to be released, think I might buy it depending on price. I do believe the 100-400 will be a great lens!
@GodwitMediaLLC4 жыл бұрын
I'll know more about the lens in a few days. The 150-400 should be a fun lens if it's not too pricy or heavy.

I've been following you for quite a while now. I can't wait for your review of this lens. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger and get one myself since for me, it's a lot of money. I now have the Olympus 75-300 II lens. Sometimes it gives me decent non professional images sometimes it was a complete waste of time to use it. I'm not a professional photographer, I am however an advanced armature photographer. I live in Florida in an area full of waterfowl and would really like to capture some great images... I'm shooting the E-M1 II and E-M5 II and E-M10 II

Tim Boyer, really! You didn't read the instructions. There's bound to one like "the lens must be attached to a camera properly before using." Thus implying we're all 4 year-old. I'm really eager to see your review! Be well!
