Im grabbing this edition off a friend who wasnt interested, and its so pretty! definetly think they missed the oppourtunity to put a dragon or kitsune or something up the edges instead of the landscape though!! Im very excited for the YA book for june too, cant wait to see spoilers :D

I've been on the Adult waitlist since Feb now and I'm hoping to get off it soon as there doing really well with their picks and customisation and like you I take the dust jacket off when I'm reading or I put them into a book sleeve

My Fairyloot book actually came yesterday, so they’re getting better at sending it out faster. I was ify about this book but read a few pages of the arc and I liked the humor (reason why I didn’t skip it) but haven’t had a chance to finish it yet but looking forward to it. The edition is very pretty and same about next month. I own none of the author’s books and haven’t read any yet but really looking forward to it.

@@ABookishBalance I find it interesting that these SE book boxes aren't allowed to send out before publication date but then BOTM has books in advance. I wonder why that is.

I just switched subscription plans from the full YA to the Combo book only and Im so incredibly glad I did.I got the full May box which was amazing in my opinion and now I just got my first adult book and oh my god!! Ive been so excited for this book personally and Fairyloot absolutely delivered I cannot wait to read it. I'm also incredibly excited for the July adult book, I'm so happy they're doing it! My illumicrate box should arrive today so fingers crossed that that one is just as good! :)

I think they must have had quite a few complaints about the designs last year, as it looks like the books from this year have been so much better. If the quality had been like this last year, I don't think I would have cancelled my subscription. The design for this was beautiful and the bare hardcover is really well done.

I loooooved the naked hardback. As you said it dis not look childish. I am not a fan of the edges just because I think they don’t match the thin book. But def happy with the overall look. I feel the same way about digital signatures. I rather not have it than have a very obvious digital signature.

😂 glad I’m not the only one who keep slipping into subscriptions. So excited for horror special editions! This book was a skip for me, just don’t appeal. It’s a pretty edition though :) they’ve done a great job this year. Next month is a BIG month, the book picks are great. Both FL YA and Adult, as well as Illumicrate, evernight and afterlight…my poor bank account,

How do you find out what is coming ahead of time?

I love the digital signature. I am a fan of reading books about fox spirits since my current fav book is To The Sky Kingdom, an english translation of the Chinese novel that needs some work on the translation, but otherwise the storyline is beautiful. It also helps that I was a real Twilight fan in my teenage years. I don't know why but normally this book would be asking me to buy it, but I just only want to borrow it.

I am not a fan of fairyloot because I’m not into the cartoon style. I am a big Illumicrate fan. The reason I’m mentioning this is because I was so sad no other book box was doing this book. I was Anticipating Shanghai Immortal the most this year. Daily I kept searching for this unboxing out of curiosity… I actually really love the design Fairyloot did with this book. It’s stunning. I ordered it secondhand immediately. I love Chinese mythology and Kitsunes ( nine tailed foxes). There aren’t enough books with them. This is one book outside of Illumicrate I would be devastated to miss out on. I’m certain the prices will skyrocket secondhand once a majority of people have gotten their boxes.

@@Wanderness I just saw this! I loved the book so much! I enjoy a lot of Chinese Fantasy Dramas on TV. I saw a lot of elements I love from the shows in the book. I reached out to the author to talk about it. She is super sweet. It’s #1 on my favorite books list. You see the character change and grow over the course of the book. Fox Spirits and Nine tailed foxes are always known to be tricksters and vain ( they can be brutal), parents are always strict, or they are super immature and childlike(especially younger ones). Some people may not have known the Lore. So it can be hard for some to understand why the characters are written that way. It a Chinese Fantasy Drama in the form of a book basically. Some may be introduced to this world and search for more things like it or it’s just not for them and that’s okay.

the fairyloot edition is so pretty! the hardback design is so much nicer than the gb edition imo! 😅i read the book at the start of the month and gave it 3/5 stars! it's a fun time, with a lot of interesting elements of worldbuilding/translating chinese myths into this world, however it reads as being very YA, not adult and i'm really at a loss as to why it's marketed as adult. if i have to read the phrase 'ta-tas' ever again, it'll be too soon! 🙈it's worth reading if you want a somewhat fun mythological romp through 1930's shanghai, but it's not a book i'd actively recommend if you're not already interested in it though!

I decided to skip this one (my first skip as I get too much FOMO) and I'm actually relived I did.
