I own both the 3v Natchez and Laredo bowies they deserve to be in a leather sheath i think these knives represent the end of the lynn thompson era of coldsteel i watched a video and he said they had been working on these knives for 3 years so well before the takeover unfortunately going forward we are now seeing the era of cheap blister pack knives great video good to see the different versions of the Laredo together

It's a shame they didn't opt for leather for the 3v models. The secure-ex I got is terrible and dangerous with almost no retention whatsoever. The one on my tai pan was miles better on that end, but I want leather for that too

@@NickAkins-iv2jx I believe you can remould the sheath to the knife, using a blow dryer to heat it up so that it becomes pliable. There's no doubt some videos on here, on how to do it.

Been giving this knife some thought. It's a classic Cold Steel blade that I'm finding increasingly difficult to pass up! "When" I do get one, a new sheath's coming with it... Great video btw!

The CPM 3V steel is up to the perils of the glass reinforced nylon sheath which is shippen with the blade. This "super steel" holds up much better than the previous versions to the abrasiveness of the sheath. Also... To improve the retention of the sheath... Start be checking for separation of the two halves near the throat or opening of the sheath. You should not be able to detect any daylight there. If you can see daylight... First remove the blade then apply just a drop of super glue and press the two halves together while drying being sure to wipe away any excess glue. Repeat on the other side. This will increase the retention. This worked wonders on my CS Trailmaster.Good luck and enjoy your Bowie.

I hope the prices go down personally I don’t mind the 4034 I just want the price to reflect the material. I don’t need 3v I’m not a fan . Everything I’ve used in 3v didn’t do anything that cheaper steels couldn’t do. In fact the 3v chipped the first time but after sharpening it was better just the edge didn’t last any longer then my other knives. What’s your take ?

But how Durable can these be with the "tangless" design and the cable in the handle? I'm pretty sure thats what these have by design
@ericsierra-franco7802
@ericsierra-franco7802 Жыл бұрын
More durable than you think! The cable tang is due to the fact that these Bowie's are designed almost exclusively as fighting knives. The cable soaks up the energy that is transmitted to the handle as a shockwave if someone were actually dueling with this knife and parrying another's blade.
@YoushouldloveyourselfNOW1738
@YoushouldloveyourselfNOW1738 5 ай бұрын
That should be how it works but remember that it uses epoxy and resin to hold it all together in the handle, which stops the tang from doing what it's supposed to, lol @ericsierra-franco7802

The Laredo Bowies do not have a full tang. There is a steel cable attached to the end of the butt cap. The handles always work loose and split with hard use. This is the reason I only buy the TrailMaster.

@Man_Cave
@Man_Cave 5 ай бұрын
I've seen many examples of failure if the person actually uses it in the field for heavy use. It's a collectible. Nothing more. The cable allows the handle to wobble and work it's way loose which causes the handle to crack.@@mathewrculbertson

CPM 3V is WAY AHEAD of O1. Better edge retention. More resistance to scratching and dulling due to the sheath. And greater resistance to staining or rusting. The downside would be a bit more difficult to sharpen and possibly more likely to chip. But I love my trailmaster in CPM3V!!!

Secure-ex dulls blades on contact! If you don't believe me then take your very edge and just lightly drag it across the side of your sheath and then shine a flashlight at your edge apex it will be flattened due to the glass fiber in the plastic! I refuse to shove any of my cold steel knives into the original sheaths because you have to strop and how them every single time if you wish to keep a shaving sharp edge

I don't like the directon Cold Steel has been going since it got sold. I think everything just gets cheapier, more comercial and progrsively soulless. And this comparison is a perfect example. You could argue the new verion and an oldschool Leredo are the same as far as blade shape and handle go, but g10 and this secure-x bullsh*t have nothing to the beautiful shiny wood and a thick leather sheath. You colud really feel Lynn's passion and love for knives in the old CS products, sadly now it seems like it's all about numbers and making money. Let's hope that Cold Steel don't end up like Gerber did - that would really be a shame
