Ginger, cloves, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg are what make pumpkin pie taste like pumpkin pie! So, make sure to use them, to get to taste it the way it should taste!

I have used the Famous Pumpkin Pie recipe on the Libby's can for 50 years. I suggest you follow that recipe also. After baking let the pie cool on a trevet then put it in your refrigerator. The pie is best when it's cold. Some people like to eat it with a dollop of whipped cream on top.

The famous recipe is on the label. But if the recipe isn't on the label -- 3/4 cup granulated sugar; 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon; 1/2 teaspoon salt; 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger; 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves; 2 large eggs; 1 (15oz) can Libby's pumpkin puree; 1 (12oz) can Evaporated milk; 1 unbaked 9-inch (4-cup volume) deep-dish pie shell Move the rack to the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 425F. Line a cookie sheet with foil and place the pie pan lined with pie crust on it. Mix the pumpkin, sugar, spices, salt and eggs until completely blended. Shake the can of milk well. Add the evaporated milk about a 1/4 of the can at a time, completely mixing in each portion. Pour into the pie shell. Bake at 425F for 15 mins. Turn the temperature down to 350 F (without removing the pie from the oven) and bake for an additional 40 - 50 mins, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. If the edge of the crust gets too brown, cover the edge with a strip of foil. Cool on a rack for 2 hours. Refrigerate. The filling is strongly flavored you don't need to use a homemade crust, if you're in a hurry. (Or like me overwork your crust into something dense enough to shield nuclear reactors.) A good quality frozen or refrigerated crust is good enough. You can also skip the crust and make it like a baked pudding, if you're trying to cut back on calories. I recommend using all the spices. The first time I made this, I made the mistake of pouring all the milk in at once. This makes it hard and messy to fully mix. Add the milk in portions and mix it in. The filling does rise a tiny bit. It your crust is too small, it can overflow. Put the cookie sheet underneath with the foil. If the filling boils over it makes huge mess. And the filling can sometimes spatter a bit and make a mess in your oven. This is a custard pie. It will spoil if not refrigerated.

What a great job they did finding the perfect gifts for you!! I actually only live about 45 minutes from the Crayola factory. I believe there are 5 to 7 factories around the US but the one in Pennsylvania (we have been to a few times) is the first/original factory. Also pumpkin pie is one of my weaknesses right along side cheese cake!! I love baking from scratch and I have toned or recipes. Recky and Carol, I hope you two have a wonderful holiday!! ❤

Hi from another Carol! Pumpkin pie is very easy to do, it may seem awkward because it is so liquidy but it bakes up into a slightly dense custard. Spices are to your liking, I like it with mostly cinnamon, ginger and nutmeg. Cardamom would be a nice add, too.

If you received a different brand of pumpkin, just Google Libbys Pumpkin Pie recipe. We have used it for 4 generations in our family. Be sure to put in what it calls for the first time. That's what makes it so look good. You can always adjust it to your taste later.

I think you should definitely need to buy or make so whip cream to put on the pumpkin pie 🎃🥧 We have cool whip which is my favorite & most of America's I think & have it cold & ready for the pumpkin pie. I like a very flavorsome pumpkin pie so use a good amt of ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon, plus a little bit of black pepper to accentuate the warm spices. That might be controversial to my fellow Americans lol but please do the classic recipe on the back of the Libbys pumpkin puree can. Many American families use that one and sometimes i use it as a base recipe to start with. I also use brown sugar instead of white for nicer color. Pumpkin pie is always my "birthday cake" as its not as sweet as cake (t1diabetes) and i was born the week of Thanksgiving lol.

It was my birthday cake too! I put in a pinch of powdered Chimayo chile. Pepper is a very northern European addition with the cinnamon, cloves and ginger.

@@aliselynch My mom collected cookie recipes from her neighbors in Nebraska and had lots of German, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish recipes. Pfeffernüsse contain the standard gingerbread spices -- cinnamon, cardamon, allspice, ginger -- and black pepper. Some lebkuchen -- German gingerbread -- spice blends include black pepper. Piparkokur and pepperkaker have cinnamon, clove, ginger and black pepper. There is even an Italian cookie, taralli, that has anise and black pepper. Now the piperine, the compound that give the heat in black pepper, has a different flavor than capsaicin from chiles. I like the capsaicin with the squash. American cooky recipes seem to have more limited spice palette. They rely more on butter and dairy for a richer, sweeter cooky. A lot of those European recipes had roots back to medieval and renaissance times, when butter and sweeteners were very expensive. And cloves, ginger and cinnamon helped preserve foods. It also seems to me, that if you were splurging for a sweet treat, you wanted a lot of flavor bang for your buck.

@@aliselynch You ought to try the same spice blend and a dash of salt on diced and sauteed butternut squash or sweet potatoes. This really makes those pop without adding sugar. If you can find a copy of Feast of Santa Fe there is a recipe for picadillo in there that harkens back to Spain with the blend of cinnamon, cloves, cumin, meat and raisins. The New Mexicans added green chiles. The hot, sweet mix is quite tasty. It makes wonderful quesadillas with a mild white cheese.
