Can someone explain to me what an AI processor is…. Like what makes that different than the highend alternatives used in gaming?

From my understanding, normal processors are generalists, good at many things. They can even carry out AI workloads if powerful enough, just slower and very inefficiently. AI processors are specialists. They are very efficient with AI workloads, outperforming standard processors in those tasks. Having them both in a system works out better for you in terms of usability in both types of computing and efficiency, if you use AI features.

@@ettcha yeah but so far all AI features have been cloud based anyways… unless it’s local like Llama which very few use. so why have an AI processor that will no be as efficient in general workloads… to me it just looks like a gimmick they are trying to sell but idk I could be wrong

@@tommaillard1415 I think Microsoft is very interested in onboard AI capabilities since they introduced Copilot+ classification of computer. Their screenshot feature was ill fated, but doing similar tasks locally still has some potential. Like how my computer can find objects like, let's say a tree, in files that don't have that in their metadata, filenames or text content. Developers can leverage that for some natural feeling, quality of life features that don't need to call home. I will admit though, that experience isn't there yet but what is there isn't so terrible that I'd turn it off.

@@ettcha yeah makes sense it has potential in the future, right now it’s just an “AI” label. I’d really like to see local AI features though that would be sick, especially on a video editing or photo editing standpoint, I’m sure there’s more applications too.
