UNC Basketball fans are angry with Hubert Davis

I graduated from Carolina in 1976, and have been a lifelong diehard fan. Something is very wrong with the team now. At times, they give up. I believe something is also wrong with the coaching staff. At the press conference after the horrible Wake game, Hubert did not have a clue. The team is a huge embarrassment.

Hubert’s body language is terrible, I know coaches in the past have been demonstrative and yelled at players, but what is he done to earn that right? He isn’t a good leader, he doesn’t maximize the young talent on the roster, and he obviously doesn’t know how to coach consistently as well as recruit consistently. It honestly seems like Caroline is selling their basketball soul for football? And if they do, it would be a real shame. I’m a Duke fan and I love the rivalry. It’s great to have a team you can compare with, and right now I’m not seeing that balance

Take it from a guy who was a mediocre church league hoops player 45-50 years ago. On half court offensive sets, up to 3 Carolina players are standing around the 3 point line, waiting for something to happen. This is not an effective scheme. They don’t have much of a post up game. The players need to be moving quickly without the basketball to get open. EC needs to penetrate to the basket or break down the defense with his dribble and pass the ball more effectively. The 3 point shooting was atrocious. Without much offensive rebounding, their shot selection needs to be solid. When they do get the ball in the paint, make the short jumpers or take it to the hoop and FINISH.

Matt Doherty was fired because of a players mutiny. The players pretty much told Carolina's AD that either Doherty goes, or they go.

I agree. He looks defeated and without any answers in his press conferences. Not a good look for a coach. Act a little pissed off once in a while. How could you not be? Your team is very much underperforming.

Let's come really, really clean. This is on Roy. Hubie has not a clue what he is doing especially on the offensive end where his histrionics are a complete embarrassment and actively hurt the team. Further, this "all-star" UNC staff cannot game plan or develop players. Add an ineffectual NIL game and this program is mid tier ACC for the foreseeable future. And I'm an alum.

HD is much more likable than Matt D. I wanted HD to have success and coach until he retires 15-20 years from now. But gees, 2/3s of '22, all '23, the way '24 ended and this season so far has been awful and seem to be related to coaching. Our half court O is pitiful. And our D is worse. We are small but very talented. The best coach may not be able to take this team to the FF, but he certainly would have a team playing much better with NCAAT not being in question.

I would say if we miss the tournament next year he has to go. If not and we squeak in then next year he's on the hot seat and we need either a top four seed or a final four appearance. UNC needs to go back to their ways where they're not comfortable losing.

Tim talking about Hubert recruiting a big - Hubert did get a center recruit - James Brown. He's not playing much but maybe he will get better if he stays but theres always a chance he transfers because he's not getting a lot of playing time.

Matt Doherty recruited Rashad McCants, Raymond Felton, and Sean May.He was well on his way but other things caused him to get fired. I agree that Hubert Davis has too many losses during his stint but how quickly we forget that he was a number one seed last yr. And he did coach in the national championship.

I think the bigger question is how did this team wind up with out a big center we know todays game is about money if you want to stay a blue blood you got to spend blue blood money if he couldn't coach his team wouldn't be as close as they are in these games with the front court they got there is a game being played and it looks like coach Davis can't win I though this was 2025 not 1925 but I guess I was wrong some things never change
