If I were to see that kind of a video, I honestly don't know if I would be able to hold back the tears. I would probably break down and start crying within minutes at how much I would miss it if I had to move away. I already feel as though I have been hit by a freight train of feels reading your comment. However, I would be extremely worried if someone posted my address in the title or description of the video because that would allow vandals to come right to my place and make an even bigger wreck of my place than it already is.

I admire the fact that you treat this abandoned house with the respect that its previous inhabitants deserve. It's heartbreaking to know that others that chance upon this property will not be so respectful and over time it will be looted, trashed and a family heritage lost forever. I would encourage you to do so more research and locate the daughter or perhaps even her offspring who, if they exist, will have no idea that this place exists. Doing this would truly best the best ending for this episode.

My theory is the property is in some type of trust and the trustees have not come to a consensus on what to do with the house and property. There might be stipulations on the trust or will that are holding things up

James Carpenter If that is the case there needs to be a new bill federally that states that if a decision cannot be made within a reasonable period of time, then the estate should be divided equally among the family! That would prevent properties like this from being at risk of vandalism!

The property may be in probate or the county has it for back taxes...There's a house in PA that's been empty since 1910 and everything is still inside. It is sealed tight and even has dead plants on the sills. I spent weekends in there when I worked between NJ and WI. I slept there and brought food. No electric and just gas lamps for light and fireplaces in each room. I played their piano and read their diaries and photos. I found their graves in the cemetery. The son was a coal miner. The spinster daughter lived there alone until 1910. It had a beautiful scent, like fuel oil mixed with roses. Everything was untouched there too. It sat on the edge of a deep ravine and it was slowly eroding underneath the house. I'm sure it fell down into the gorge by now. You had to grab the frame post and swing out onto the porch to get inside so you wouldn't fall into the ravine below. I used Google maps to see if it's still there but no luck.

All I can say is thank you for not destroying that home, and being respectful there. Personally I wouldn't tell anyone the location and keep it locked or try to find the family members and get in touch so they can retrieve family belongings that are important to them. Again thank you for being good human beings it gives me hope that good is still out there in a dark world

I absolutely agree, sadly though you would be shocked by what some people will throw away. I used to work as a cleaner who specialised in cleaning up the properties and belongings of the recently deceased. I was raised to have reverence for the past and I am absolutely enamored with the stories of people who lived before me. I constantly had clients who I would bring objects that seemed important to the family to, because I assumed they'd want to keep it. Home video tapes, personal items like handmade things, even war medals going back to world war II. Some people of course wanted to keep them, which I expected, but way more people than you'd think would just tell me "nah, just throw it all in the bin. I don't have any use for that.". I would usually keep things like war medals and other historically important things if people wanted to throw them out, but something about owning other people's home videos rubbed me the wrong way so I usually reluctantly threw those out as the client wished. I have quite a stockpile of some very unique and interesting antiques from my time as a cleaner. All of which I keep in good nick out of respect for their former owners. I wonder sometimes if I might donate some of these things to a museum but I have to wonder what museums would want them. War medals obviously museums want those, but things like a 60s geiger counter from a bomb shelter, a seismometer from the 50s owned by a geologist, an ambulance driver helmet from the blitz in London that made it's way over to Australia, I cannot let go of some of these things, I want my children to share my reverence for those who came before us and the lives they lived and I want these artifacts to provide them with a way to physically touch the past.

That's such a sad reminder of how fleeting life can be, we're here one day and then we're gone. Just our memories recorded and objects collected left as a reminder for people to find. Just finding the clothing laying around on the chair as if he came in just dropped his sweater on the back of the rocking chair felt like you walked in a normal day caught frozen in a moment of time. The VHS honestly made me cry because of another reason. My grandparents moved out of my childhood house in 2014 and it was the very first house I ever entered in my life in 1994. I grew up in that house and when my grandparents moved out of the house they could never find one of our old VHS boxes (with photos as well) and we just assumed we lost them. Fast forward to 2016 and my older sister gets a call from the new owners of the house saying they found the old box in a very discrete corner in the storage closet (very massive room, also my sister's phone number was my mom's old one so that's how she got contacted since her number was on a bunch of the VHS tapes). She and I both went to go retrieve the box since we lived like 20 minutes away and the home owner was kind enough to let us test the VHS tapes to see if they still held up for watch. Me and her both felt so much nostalgia watching our lives in the house we grew up in and it was one of my favorite memories of all time finding and watching some of the tapes in our childhood home.

The "L&R" machine sitting above the furniture varnish is an old watch/clock part cleaning machine. You put the bits into one of the jars, it is lowered into the wash and spins at a high rate of speed. After a period of time you lift the arm, turn the base to the rinse solution, repeat. Eventually you move the bits into a heating chamber that dries everything so as not to rust.

Just wanted to say that I really appreciated cognitive awareness and respect of what you were seeing and exploring in this home. It was nice for once to see a place that was not ransacked and clearly had things of value in it (that car was in great shape and probably extremely low miles!) and actually did look like someone just left it. The way you played the VHS tape and let the former resident’s private moments and voices play out without talking over it was very well done. It was indeed a heartbreaking video and one that shows us the fleeting nature of life… we all move on at some point, and we can’t take it with us. This one really got to me and made me sad!! You guys did an amazing job here. This is so layered. I just turned 59 this year my parents were born in the 1920s and have long been gone they were older and I remember what it was like growing up in the 60s 70s and living through the 80s and 90s. The world has changed incredibly. What I can figure from this is that this was land it probably was in the family the old house that you see that’s unrecognizable and the plot of land that is a garden its reminiscent of how people lived in the past they would raise their vegetables and fruits not everyone was in a city with access to grocery stores etc. so this was probably land that’s been in the family a long time that’s why there’s no need to reclaim the house, my guess is the daughter just wanted to get away from all of it saw both of her parents pass and didn’t want to be the last one to clean everything up. Maybe she just keeps the electricity on and says to herself she’ll go back one day to clean it up but doesn’t. Maybe there are other family members as well but from that family scene in the video everyone was quite old except the daughter. This made me tremendously sad but it was beautiful at the same time thank you so much for making this gorgeous video!!

I just watched another video that is three years on. No power. But the stuff is still largely untouched. It may be the daughter has also fallen into ill health. Nice place for an auction, but all that awful 70’s decor needs to be ripped out, and given a clean, clutter-free refresh. Assuming the house is still viable at all. Those northern winters very quickly destroy an un-heated house.

What a crazy one this was! My father is older, and I recognized many of the things in the house from my childhood. A lot of kitchen appliances were exactly what we had. The wallpaper in the kitchen is very similar to the kitchen wallpaper from my childhood home, the counter tops as well. My grandfather was also a clockmaker, and so many clocks were the same. Awesome, nostalgic video for me. How awesome that the power was left on and you guys could check out the VHS.

I would love to purchase this home. I would leave it as is for the most part, just tidy it up and decorate it for the holidays. The way it was ... *sigh* such a beautiful, simple life. ❤️ I never have much luck finding abandoned homes in Reno NV. Most of the homeless have already found them and trashed them. Which is heartbreaking to me. I could never walk into someone’s once beautiful home, and smash their belongings or destroy the property. I imagine it being my grandparents home, and treat it with the same respect! ❤️

If you've never been homeless, you don't know what you would do in an abandoned house. Besides it's not the homeless that wreck abandoned homes, it's usually teens and young adults who use it just as a place to kick it.

The house is still beautiful inside and out. To see that video with the owners and their dog broke my heart..I hope it never gets vandalized...This was one special find guys! This couple's whole life of letters important personal papers old photos antique furnishings will one day start to decay along with their beautiful home..so sad. I had the jvc gr55 camcorder same as used in the back to the future films that was decent quality for the time , I'd imagine these home videos where done using a similar sort of camera.

Even with electricity still powering the home after tens years of supposedly sitting untouched, wouldn’t there be some roof damage at some point. The home seems to be in extremely good condition after sitting for 10 years. Even the grass and yard does not seem that overgrown.

At various times during my occupation, I often found myself going into abandoned homes/buildings to check on the properties. Like a legally sactioned urban explorer. I found myself captivate by pictures and other momentoes, that were left behind by the previous inhabitants. I always wondered what kinds of lives they lived. What personal triumphs and tragedies they faced. What you guys do, and the many others like you on KZbin, is document these little histories. If you guys didn't (if I may borrow an old cliche); "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

Its now 11-12-21 and this was posted 10-30-20 and I just viewed the video for the first time. I have to tell you that a whole lot sadness covered me before I even finished the video. The discoveries you made, the clocks, the VHS tapes, just everything, brought the reality of ones life so real as if he just stepped out of the room for a minute. You and your partner handled everything with great care and respect and I commend you for that. I guess it will never be known why or who left the home untouched for so many years. I only hope it remains hidden and no harm comes to the house. Both of you did a great job and you just got a new sub from Oklahoma. Thank You, Just Me

21:15 it's an old L&R watch cleaning machine. In its day, this model was high end. Watchmakers still use the old cleaners and they've changed very little over the years. This machine, in particular, agitated the watch parts in a metal mesh basket, in addition to an ultrasonic while they were immersed in the glass jars, which contained special cleaning and rinsing solutions.
