Tdlr: Both the Europeans and the Natives had rival nations even if they were the same race (English and Dutch, Pequot and Narragansett) and had alliances with each other but some of them were broken off because of political interest. Both the Europeans and the Natives had ulterior motives and played political games. The Natives were intelligent and has their own interests and schemes in mind. And tell the truth starting in 1619 not 1776!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
@willmcalister37332 жыл бұрын
@@larry1824 You're absolutely right that it is important we as history educators tell the story of the Portuguese pirate ship that captured enslaved Africans from Spain and sold them to the Jamestown colony in 1619. We also need to tell the story of how the Atlantic Slave Trade began in the 1400s before then. But we also need to not get carried away. The Portuguese Pirates and English tobacco planters in 1619 had absolutely zero thought about starting a new country. All the pirates cared about was collecting the money and sailing out in search of their next victims. The English planters were still loyal to English King James I, and made that clear in the first meeting of the Virginia House of Burgesses that same year. In no way did anyone involved in the inhumane transfer of trafficked humans in 1619 think they were starting a nation called the United States. However, the delegates of the 2nd Continental Congress 157 years later in 1776 absolutely believed and knew they were starting a new nation called the United States. Now, we absolutely need to tell how Washington could have ended all slavery in the new United States by just putting it in a letter to all the states in 1783, after the War for Independence had ended. He could have again while president from 1789-1797. President Adams could have as well, since he and Federalists from northern states controlled the White House, the Senate, and the House of Representatives. Heck! Jefferson, though famously owning slaves openly declared it evil and a contradiction--and he was president for another 8 years from 1801-1809! There's no excuse for any of them to have not ended slavery when they could have. But, I don't think we need to declare that America started in 1619, because nobody in 1619 was even thinking about founding a new nation at that time. What are your thoughts on this?
@grondhero2 жыл бұрын
@@larry1824 Hopefully you're not referring to the racist narrative of 1619 that was quickly debunked. Always tell the truth with history. The problem is, most people who see themselves as "victims of history" don't like their own 'villainous' history.

Many Natives would accept " Payment " from the English for Land Use expecting that Natives would also continue use. Permanent Building on Land was an English Condition for Ownership of Land - this Concept was not ingrained into the Native Mind. This war was the beginning of Native Relations and how the WASP would " Negotiate " with Native Americans for the next 400 years. Thanks.
