Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake Review - S1E3 - Cake the Cat

Cake the Cat warps into the Land of Ooo and chaos ensues for the innocent bystanders who shop at the local market for cursed fruit and whatnot. I had fun watching Cake and Squirrel enact silly hijinks together before Fionna beats up everyone to save her beloved pet/roommate. Episode 3 of Fionna & Cake was very enjoyable, but did not pack as many mind-blowing moments as the episodes surrounding it, so it comes off as relatively lackluster (again, only because the other episodes were so dang amazing). Oh, and the start with Prismo watching Jake Suit in action was a delight!

So I'm 100% of the opinion that the Finn and Jake we see in this episode are the main Finn and Jake we know and love, and here's my theory/explanation as to why for anyone who cares to read this. So I'd say Finn is likely in his mid twenties here since he looks older than he was in Obsidian, but younger than he was in the second episode of this series, and this adventure they're on that Prismo is viewing is likely not very long before Jake's passing. Maybe Finn got the tattoo in support of Jake who might be ill at this point and showing signs that his time left is relatively short, but they're still going on adventures despite this because I'm sure Finn would want Jake to live his life to the fullest, especially towards the end of it. My main reason for thinking this is that when they first show up in the episode Jake looks like he's really struggling to run, and Finn with a slightly concerned expression (look at the way his eyebrows are curved) says "push through it Jake", as if he knows by now that Jake is having a harder time due to his age but Finn is doing that thing that he does where he tries to brush off serious/sad things by acting positive and saying encouraging things while not directly addressing or ignoring the issue. We see him do this a lot with Simon in episode two. Also as far as Finn's age specifically goes in these three points of adulthood that I mentioned before I'd estimate he's around 21-23 in Obsidian, around 25 or 26 in episode three of Fionna and Cake, and we know he's 29 in episode two. This just makes the most sense to me going off of his appearances, also small detail/sidenote I noticed, look at Finns jeans in the episode, they're ripped at the knees, and we know Finn likes to wear basically the same clothes all the time, and in episode two which would take place after, we see him wearing ripped jean shorts, it's likely the same pair of jeans that he just made into shorts after they got too torn up on his adventures. Another thing to note is look at Finn in Obsidian the guy looks way too happy for a guy who supposedly lost his brother recently, which makes me think Jake must have been alive during Obsidian and just wasn't present in the moment, and him being alive in episode three if it is part of the timeline like I believe that it is would basically confirm this. I mean look at Finn he was just in the shower before he shows up, so it looks like Simon just picked up him and Bronwyn on very short notice without warning so they didn't have time to alert Jake who was obviously off doing something else. Now as for Prismo I think he's just going through and watching Finn and Jake's adventures before Jake died as a means of coping, remember he can look at any point in time in any given universe. But anyway yeah those are just my personal thoughts on the matter. Sorry this comment ended up being so long lol.

I can't agree. I am too convinced that Finn got the tattoo after Jake died, because the flowers are blue/purple forget-me-nots. I agree he's younger in Obsidian, but I think that means that Jake died and Finn's already touring with his grandkids as a coping measure. Given that Come Along With Me has Finn and Jermaine statues, the implication could be that in the main timeline Finn did his most culturally significant and memorable adventuring with Jermaine after Jake's death, though I think it is more likely that Jermaine (being a famous abstract artist) was falsely attributed Jake's accomplishments. A funny ironic twist given how understated and forgotten he was in AT. This also fits how Finn isn't super invested in seeing Jermaine in Together Again, as you'd think if they spent a lot of time together he would be. In the next episode it is established that Prismo sometimes creates universes out of his own desires. I think that after Jake being dead for a while (at least long enough for Finn to get the tattoo), Prismo decided he wanted to see Jake and Finn keep adventuring, so he created a universe where Jake was brought back from the dead. (It's happened before when Abe Lincoln made a deal!). It kind of explains why Finn is so much more openly affectionate and appreciative of Jake, having only recently got him back.

@@perplexedon9834 It was established that Prismo created ONE universe for himself which he needed to hide in Ice King's mind since he's not supposed to make universes for himself, him making other universes goes against what he literally says in the episode. I just really don't see why Finn couldn't have just gotten the tattoo before Jake died. But it's just my thoughts and theories so until they're confirmed or denied which they may never be, it's all up in the air and purely speculation.

The idea that the human island exists to keep a strong connection to Founder's island makes sense. I believe the reason for the humans having their own island is to give the humans choice; You can go explore the land of Ooo with all its amazingness & dangers OR stay safe at the island with Minerva. Humans having a choice was the most important part to Finn during the Islands series

I hope that due to the interdimensional theme of the series, we will get an episode in which Simon confronts his past Ice king persona. What I missed in the ending of the original series was a conclusion for the character of Ice king. Persononally I would like to see Simon acknowledge Ice King as his own invidual with hopes and dreams who is now gone. And so do Ice King ... well in his case, it would be literally acknowledging Simon existence ;)

The adult Finn we see in episode 2 is very clearly from after the version we saw at the end of Obsidian. The adult Finn we see in Prismo's screen, however, is a lot harder to place, and that frustrates me xD He looks older than Obsidian Finn to me, but Jake is still alive, and I got the impression Jake was dead by then. (admittedly the tattoo theory being debunked does put a damper on that, but surely Finn adventuring with Bronwyn was in response to Jake's death, like we see Finn doing with TV in this series? Maybe it wasn't? Maybe I'm right and just wrong about Obsidian Finn being so young?)

There was tons I loved about episodes 3 and 4, but in some ways I was a little underwhelmed compared to the first 2 episodes. I will wait for the rest of the series to form a real opinion, but it was a mixed first impression. I loved the Tree Cult animals coming after the squirrel, especially since Jim Cummings voices the owl and is basically the polar opposite to the Disney characters he usually voices. And I'm real angry at Kumail Nanjiani's manager for not even telling him about AT coming back, especially since he's made a point of saying how much he's loved playing Prismo. The new guy does a great job, but it feels a little impersonal for such an important story.

@@sean668 It wasn't until I saw the video from that "robe trotting" duo that I realised that drinking a beer while walking around is actually not legal in America. Because that idea seems so strange. who are anyone to tell an adult person what to drink and where? In general I think ye have a weird relation to alcohol. We don't really have a drinking age in Denmark. "hvidtøl" (white beer) is given to us as babies. it is only 1,7% so no big deal, it is not a "real" beer. Beer of course being an important part in any folkeskole (primary school) party, and well, by the time we reach 21 we are basically over the whole alcohol thing, as binch drinking are considered juvenile.

I didn't catch onto the fact when watching that cake turning the hot dog knight into a regular hot dog had the same visual effect as prismo's, but definitely its because cake and fionna come from prismo's imagination they both potentially have wishmaster powers or some version of it, and do not have control over it being unaware. so if simon does become ice king I think he def could be changed back with that power, but also its going to cause major problems before that point, and I think we'll be seeing that in the next two episodes

I don't think they have wishmaster powers, but they are probably radiating with his magic. They were created unauthorized so Prismo's magic could be unstable inside the authorized areas. Makes more sense why he put it in ice kings labyrinth of a vault even if that magic leaked a little the crowns magic would override it and turn it into more power for Gunther's wish. Also sidenote the crowns magic is very similar to wishmaster magic so I don't think it's too far of a stretch. That and even if they tried to convict him ice kings crown is literally a labyrinth of madness Simon is tucked away in. they'd have to search every one of the user's heads. edit: wait he might have just put it in ice kings head itself like not Simon's consciousness inside his head but literally just ice king. idk either way madness cluttered around ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯

I was actallu really hoping you will find a deeper meaning trough Cake and the squirrel's shennanigans. It seemed to be about a life or a bubble something or someone planned out for you (in this case, the squirrel and the citizens of their tree) and you wanting to leave it but forces always try drag you back into it. Theory , Finn started going with jakes kids when he got sick and Finn got the tattoo

My guess is that Jake challenged Finn to a bet that he knew he would lose, and that made Finn have to get the tattoo. Jake was fully aware of the fact that he had a few years left in him, but Finn probably couldn't accept that, and although I subscribed to the theory that he did it to honor Jake, maybe that was assuming that Finn would be a little too ready for that so soon after Jake died.

I think this is a reality where Jake lived even if it makes sense he's rewatching old footage. An infinity number of universes and this is the one where Finn still got the tattoo but Jake never died, I really do think he would've been in Obsidian if he was still alive in the main timeline.
