I'm watching the episodes of this TV version right now on KZbin, and it's greatly EXCEEDED my expectations. Regardless of your opinion of Kevin Meaney as a stand-up comic, he played Buck Russell with a lot of heart in this show. It *was* initially a success in the ratings when CBS aired it on Monday nights, but a move to Fridays only two months in eroded viewership. People, you all need to learn to not judge a show by a simple opening sequence.
@jasoncinema Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I remember watching this as it aired, with my mom and sister, and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. Like you said, no one can replace Candy but Meaney did a good job in this TV adaptation. And one hell of a comedian, too. We lost him way too soon.

@douglasfranks This is supposedly a different universe than the movie. In this show, Bob & Cindy died in a car accident, and Buck is named guardian of Tia, Miles, and Maizy, much to the objection of Cindy's mom (the kids' grandma), whom was played by Audrey Meadows.
@Elric_Winchester2 жыл бұрын
Truth be told, the could had made this in the same universe, except say Buck and Cherise are newly married. At this point, Buck as been working on cleaning up his life and making a better living. Early into it he gets a call that his brother and his sister-in-law were in a car accident. They both wind up passing away and in their will named Buck the children's legal guardian, but word gets out to Cindy's sister, with the help of her mother/kids' grandmother, and she makes it her personal mission to fight Buck for guardianship. Boom. There's your show.

This show is probably not as great as the movie uncle Buck but because I love John Candy and uncle Buck so much and I love the 90s I’m willing to watch this show. It only has one season and even if it’s bad I’m gonna watch the whole thing. Also I would love if someone made a documentary style series that is not just a documentary but also an hour long show that can give you the feel of a John Hughes film and A John candy movie. I would want it to be a documentary style where you’re kind of looking back on John Hughes and John Candy but at the same time there’s a story woven into it that makes you feel like you’re watching a heartwarming John Hughes movie and a heartwarming John Candy movie. If I look back on to the 80s and I think about which type of films have a special place in my heart the most I would have to say it’s John Hughes films and also John Candy films. Also as a recommendation if anyone reading this has never seen summer rental with John Candy I would highly recommend it because even though it’s not as memorable as uncle Buck I believe if more people saw it then it could be just as memorable.
