The issue with MSG use only started when _CSR (Chinese Restaurant Syndrome)_ became a thing across mainstream media. It was started when some white people went to China as tourists and ate some food there from the street food culture and local stores. They complained to the Western news media that they got headaches and blamed the food after they got back home. The story blew up from there and MSG got targeted as the cause, with media channels blowing up the topic across the world causing panic and discrimination towards its use on food. This panic also reached the Philippines. I'm a Filipino too and actually got to experience this phenomenon happen in my generation. There is skepticism about this story because there is basically no proof of it being true. There is also some skepticism that the people who told the original story just already had bad preconceptions about the local food in Asia, like it being naturally dirty food and such, and thus came out with the story out of spite. Some people attribute their self-proclaimed headaches in the story to be actually a result from them eating dishes they were not used to eating at home (like steamed dimsum dishes). Interestingly enough, several countries have already actually done studies on MSG to see if it is indeed the killer chemical CSR makes it sound like to be. As far as I know, even after all these years, none have proven it to be true so far (exception being if you take abnormal or excessive amounts of it as with any substance). What people unversed in this flavoring weirdly enough don't realize with MSG is that it also contains some amount of sodium (hence Mono Sodium Glutamate). Just like with common salt, any excessive amount of sodium is going to give you headaches. That's why MSG is only used in small amounts. So it's not that MSG is some deadly synthetic chemical that will cause crystals to grow inside your kidney...more like too much sodium from anything is going to give you kidney problems. For people curious, MSG was made from boiled seaweed extract (seaweed like in other Japanese dishes), dried like how sea salt is made, and then the crystalline result is just refined into the desired shape. It's a naturally found substance in food. Last but not the least, the way Asian countries "bypassed" CSR and the fear p0rn panic over MSG was to just not mention MSG's inclusion when they advertise food containing it. A good example is "Magic Sarap" which advertises its self as flavor granules made from natural spices like garlic. They won't mention MSG anymore on the ads, but read the label and it will have it on the ingredients list. If you still eat food from Asia with some form of sodium or salt, you probably still have consumed some MSG. If you eat chips and other snacks with some saltiness, you have eaten MSG most likely and just didn't realize it until reading this post. You won't die from MSG with normal food consumption. I've lived my entire life with the thing in food normally, and the doctor has never found any kidney issues in me. The point is take it like salt or sugar. Don't eat too much of it. Just the right amount. It's a seasoning. Not a white powder for substance abuse. 🤣

As a filipino I'm dumbfounded and flabbergasted when people "cooks" egg fried rice. I mean who in their right mind would be "scared" of trying out egg fried rice!?... 🥚🍳🍚

No matter the rice, as long as the water is symmetrical to your first joint on your index finger, it's good enough. How I would do it is that I would lay my hand flat on the rice and have the water cover my knuckles, more accurate measurement

Loved the video @Paws! Can't wait for the next video Girl! The one time I saw Uncle Roger was for @Yuikai Channel's Birthday. He tried to keep in Character but just couldn't halfway through and so his actual voice came through for the later half of the video he made to wish Yui a Happy birthday. If by some chance that you feel the slightest bit jealous about this then don't worry, Maybe Next Year you might have a video from him wishing you a Happy Birthday.... Or even with Stephen He LMAO!

Also, I agree with paws about the rice. The amount of water depends on what type of rice you are cooking And about the MSG, that damn thing so concentrated you get kidney stones if left unchecked... A freaking health hazard! That's why we Filipinos don't use it often

well... MSG is not that hazardous. It's naturally found in foods like cheese and tomatoes. Everything will be a health hazard if we don't control the consumption amount, even mineral water. My late grandfather got kidney stones because he drank too much water on daily basis. Not everything need MSG (like Ajinomoto) in addition, but MSG enhances the flavor.
