In the UK, pretty much all pickled cucumbers are called gherkins. In the US, gherkins are a subcategory of pickles that are smaller and usually crisper than the rest.

10:45 I think that was a good idea. Soy sauce, mirin, spring onion, with some daishi stock. Thicken with cornstarch or flour. Cook egg and chicken thighs. Stuff into a shokupan style bun or mochi for an Oyakodon inspired bun. Or if we really wanted to go with the tonkatsu idea. You could make the coco curry with the deep fried tonkatsu and stuff it into some mochi. Both dishes normally are eaten with rice, so maybe the mochi could substitute that for the rice? I don't know how either would taste, but at least it would be a japanese inspired bun. Also matcha is huge nowadays, they could even make a matcha custard steamed bun. That I know would taste pretty good. Also fun fact, In 685 AD Chinese Empress Wu Zetian sent a pair of pandas to Emperor Tenmu of japan. There's a board game based off of it called Takenoko, it's pretty fun.

Gherkin is pickled cucumber. So the steam bun is called "Bao" there is also something called "Laughing bao" where a bao is split and the filling stuffed in that way.

Actually 'curry' in India has a whole different meaning. Curry in India is gravy. Traditionally curry has to have coconut in it. We don't make curry. We call all our 'curries' sabzi. Quite literally sabzi means vegetables in Hindi. But we also call a fully prepared curry as sabzi.
@John_Weiss
@John_Weiss Жыл бұрын
Hey, I'm American, and even _I_ know that "curry" means "gravy" in India. I always mess with other Americans who say, "I don't like curry," by asking them, "Why don't you like gravy? Also, what kind of gravy don't you like?" 😉

I know at the moment you don't have a huge amount of subscribers, but you both are great at the reaction videos. Keep it up, and if you keep up with the Uncle Roger reacts I'm sure your brand will grow. A lot of Uncle Roger fans do like it when the reactors also wear orange, but I don't personally care either way. Good luck!!

I’ve gotten in the habit of watching both the Japanese & English version of your reactions, and it’s interesting to see the different things said in both. :-) Maybe they’re having them make buns because they need to have them bake something (for the “bake off” part of the show?). Maybe taiyaki would be a better choice? Looks like a fish at least. Chinese buns are often steamed instead of baked, anyway.

Gherkin is a German word for cucumber if I'm not mistaken, don't quote me on that. Usually we call it cucumber, gherkin usually refers to pickled cucumber, like the one McDonald's put in their burgers.
@ohauss
@ohauss 2 жыл бұрын
The actual German word is "Gurke" - probably related to gherkin. The distinction in Germany is between "Salatgurke" - the type you'd put into a salad - and "Gewürzgurke", (lit. "spiced gherkin") for the pickled variant. Evidently, there are scores of different types within each distinction.

In the U.S., or at least the south, that 100% bun would be called a biscuit. at least that is what it looks like. you would use it with something that has a lot of grease to soak it up and eat it together.

I’m SEA Chinese, but I’m surprised to see the company actually take the Twitter seriously and made “Suman” 😂 Initially I thought that Japan already has a 100% steam bun called Manjuu (馒头 mantou)??? But I also just recalled, the Chinese 馒头 doesn’t exist in Japan, their version of Manjuu, in varieties, has fillings like red bean paste, Momiji Manjuu, or Mizu(Kuzu powder) Manjuu

If I were to make a Japanese bun, I would make the bun look like a Kitsune, and I would fill it with Adzuki bean paste (just like inside Taiyaki). I'd make the bun slightly (very slightly) sweet, like Dorayaki. Not too sweet though, Japanese foods tend to be less sweet than western foods. What do you think? Would it taste good?
@1court206

Maybe the reason they called it 「すまん」like the slang term for 「すみません」is because they expected everyone to hate it, so the packaging is apologizing ahead of time XD (obviously a joke) P.S Bun if made and cooked properly is actually really good and I often like it better than the filling I find inside XD

Suman is actually good because you can eat it as the usual steamed version or toast it yourself for a more baked bread-like experience. Fun Fact though: There is a classic local glutinous rice cake wrapped in banana leaves in the Philippines also called "Suman". We pronounce it as _Suu-Man_ (すうまん) and it is best served either drizzled with a sweet sauce or dipped in sugar. I highly suggest you guys try it out if you get the chance. 👍

they should of did mochi, also the reason why the pig buns looked so bad is because the meat used was porkbelly which has all that fat and happens to fat it starts to melt an releases all the juices the buns needed to be bigger to absorb everything to prevent the juiced from the fat to leak out.
