I’ve lived in Oregon my almost 33 years of life and I never had to pump my own gas until a few months ago. I love it! No more waiting on 1-2 gas attendants who are busting tail to cover 6-9 cars on their own.

Oregon says self serve takes away jobs. They have both. full service and self serve now.
@bonniebrown6960 Жыл бұрын
I wish it would come back, because when you have babies and kids in the car...it helps when the baby is asleep and you don't have to wake the baby up and get all of them out of the car just to pay for your gas. I know debit or bank cards help too, but if you don't pay inside some of our gas stations....they'll put a hold on your money and that makes me so mad. I live in GA. The last time I seen a full service gas station was probably in the 80's.

My Sweet friend Louise, now gone on, had never pumped her own gas until her husband died. She was in her nineties when she died. She was so proud of herself. Some people just don't know history. I know how, and can, pump my own gas. But, I'll let my husband go do it if he wants to. ;) I'm old enough to remember when, here in Ohio, we had full service & self-serv stations. Anymore, it's just self service...as far as I know. Thank you guys.

@straightforward, I am sorry for your loss. I also remember when gas station used to offer full service or self service at gas stations. I live in GA. I thought that was a thing of the past. I didn't know that some gas stations in certain states still had full service. I thought it was a good thing. Back in those days people had more respect for others though than they would today. My Granny never liked pumping her own gas either. She'd get one of us to do it for her. I think she was just so shy and self conscious about going in the gas station to pay for it. She always worried about her hair. 😅. Poor Granny. ❤ She's gone on to be with the Lord now too. I also remember back in the 70's....if you bought a whole tank of gas you got a free drinking glass and green stamps. Do you remember that? We had a whole set of blue glasses and my mom and my Granny used green stamps. They'd save up enough to get all kinds of stuff. 😊

I live just south of the Oregon border and have family in Oregon and I’ve been told that they had the law about not pumping your own gas for the sake of providing/protecting jobs for those who work at gas stations. If that’s true, I can admire providing jobs for folks who want to work. 😊 They did just allow a certain number of pumps to be self-serve but not all of them. We were just there and it did help things go faster with a choice.

I live in Oregon, not sure WHY Oregon couldn't pump our own gas, but we can now. My husband's family even owned a gas station in Oregon when he was growing up and he couldn't give me a straight answer on it. I will say that when that law was in effect, we had people from Washington (closest Washington state town is 5 miles away) coming over the state line because our fuel was cheaper anywhere between 5 to 30 cents a gallon.

Y’all need to go watch some videos from the Joplin Tornado or the Alabama tornado outbreak in 2011… a building with no windows ain’t gonna help in something like that. What are you gonna do? Get in a small room on the lowest floor of your house with as many walls between you and the outside as possible. And yes, shoes and helmets for at least the kids. James Spann (legendary tv meteorologist in Birmingham) got the helmet thing started after he watched way too many people who had taken shelter die of head injuries during the horrific tornado out break in Alabama April 27, 2011. Yes I’m a nerd about this, my family survived an EF5 tornado that totally leveled much of our town cause my dad got us all to the basement and under a couch he flipped. Stay safe guys, we need ya!

I will have to disagree with Si on one thing. Several years back we recorded our first gospel cd. The engineer explained to us us about practice. Practice does not make perfect. Perfect practice makes perfect. That’s why Martin went and listened to the ducks. He didn’t want to go through the motions. He wanted it correct.
