8:43:32 Mile and Exit 880 on I-10 in Texas is the highest numbered mile marker and exit # in the entire country! It would be shorter to turn around and head to the end of I-10 East in Jacksonville, Fla than to continue on to mile 0 at the New Mexico State line! And a shout out to anyone who has traveled all 880 miles of I-10 in Texas like I have!

That's cool to know. I remember when I entered Texas and seeing the exit numbers in the 800s, which is double what I had ever seen before that.

It must be really difficult to maintain such silence to capture the actual audio. This definitely helps your videos recreate the experience of being a passenger along for the ride. Have you ever considered trying to use a mic that sits outside the passenger cabin? Maybe wired up in the engine compartment to block cabin noises but still capture the road and engine sounds? Obviously, you'd need to bring down the audio levels in post production to make them sound more like cabin sounds. But it might relieve the pressure on you to keep total silence.

Believe it or not, I really don't have any issues with staying quiet. I do these drives by myself, which makes it a million times easier to do. Unless I'm driving through an urban area, I listen to music with my earbuds, but not too high of volumes so that I can't hear what's around me, of course.

@@rolux4853 I always edit out the long pauses or stops because I find them boring when I'm watching the videos. Hi Uncle Coolie thanks very much for your videos. They are great, love to come over and do some of the trips myself one day. Love this one too. Have a question though: you seem to be following the I10 from Slidell the over lake Ponchartrain and through New Orleans to Baton Rouge. Why not following the I12 from Slidell to Baton Rouge which seems to quicker. Was it just for our viewing pleasure, or is the I10 quicker? What are the considerations for doing a route anyway when researching which route to film?
@unclecoolie
@unclecoolie 2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks. I chose to drive through New Orleans just for the view and because I had never been to New Orleans before. I don't always choose the quickest route when I do these road trips. For example, in this trip, I also chose to drive over to Meridian, MS and down I-59/US-11 through Laurel instead of I-65 south of Montgomery to Mobile (which would've been faster) because I wanted to drive through Laurel as there's a popular show on HGTV that my wife and I watch that takes place there. Also, when I drove from New York to Santa Monica in September, I detoured in western Kansas northward so that I could drive through Colorado Springs.

Hmm. I'd say the pickup trucks that I've driven before (Dodge Ram in my first WV trip in June 2017; Ford F-150 in my 2nd WV trip in July 2019; and the Honda Ridgeline that I just drove in my NY-CA trip in September) are the smoothest vehicles that I've driven.

Unfortunately, the camera doesn't have an optical zoom, and the only way to lesson the fish eye view some is to knock down the resolution to 1080p, which I don't want to do.

Thank you! I drove a Nissan Altima, which I rented from Dulles Airport. I would love to do a US-66 trip one day, similar to National Lampoon's Vacation.

I remember you. I had contemplated driving through Birmingham, but Montgomery made more sense given that I wanted to drive through Laurel, MS and down into New Orleans.

You're taping history! I came back from a trip 2 days ago and stumbled upon this channel (Google spying me?), the air quality at my destination was so much better than at home so I'm missing it. I've read your comments and I love how you manually write down temps, overlay the GPS data, all this hard work is commendable apart from driving of course which takes sheer focus and stamina.
