Has NBA 2K25 Become too Realistic?

The realism is not the problem. The animations tend to be, the shooting is. There is a lot of non-realism in the gameplay and animations. The game isn't balanced. I do appreciate the lack of cheese. I think there needs to be a reunderstanding of realism and what considered arcade.

My only gripe this 2k is the VC costs, which I know isn't the first game it started. For a game where everything is virtual, why is in-game content also going through inflation? We didn't ask for these random brands 😂

25 is a GREAT SIMULATION video game. I think it's a bigger problem i ppl just don't know how to have fun anymore. The community pushed the game in this direction now ppl upset. When the game was fun for everyone they complained. Now we have the realest NBA2k to date.

I’ve been playing Myplayer since 2k19… I think 25 may be the worst..It has nothing to do with the “cheese” because I’ve never been a player that used cheese. It’s terrible animations, RNG shooting is too much,, the dunk meter is bad etc…..being able to put a player straight to 99 is good, smaller neighborhood is good, the gameplay is too inconsistent

For me, myself, I find this 2K enjoyable because everyone is pretty much on the same playing field. Granted, sometimes it’s annoying when it comes down to shooting and dunking (ESPECIALLY dunking since I’m a slasher at heart) but I’m just in a space as a player where I just find fun in different ways. Same time though, this is what was bound to happen and I’ve said it every year since 2K21. Eventually we were going to get what we asked for, which was a more realistic game, and the majority would probably not enjoy it. Is it my favorite 2K of all time? Hell no. But is it the worst one I’ve experienced? Also a no. It’s a step in the right direction and just needs a little more polishing to me.

I will say this, we need to find a balance between the arcade and realism because I’ve noticed when 2k tries to cater to one side too heavy the game is either too “boring” or too unrealistic

Just find it weird how they made it so hard to get gold shooting badges for taller builds. It’s a major reason for why you see soooooo many whites go in. Idk how much participation is at but I go in rec at the pf most the time and I’m being guarded by an AI 85 percent of the time and the ai build logic doesn’t conform to our build logic. For example they will show red in shooting categories with 90’s in all their finishing categories but somehow are lights out at the pf position. That same build will have crazy high interior and will mirror you perfectly even if you have ankle assassin at silver (highest you can get at 6’7 and up which doesn’t make sense) These two expects (along with all the randomness the game tries to pile on you like weird passing logic) have really hindered my experience on the game and I’m a grinder who plays all year, but I play way less. It’s the first 2k I have really not played much. Like after an hour I’m good. Probably won’t be getting 26 on launch and might wait until Christmas or not at all. There’s so much more I want to say here but I’ll just say I feel like with changes to more realism my bag has shrunk. The triple threat moves are weird and less predictable on what you get. Fades are launching you into layups. Dunk meter attempts are getting you to do hop steps. ALS who thought it was a good idea for you not to see your green window on dunks? I have high dunk builds that still get taken out of dunks by 5’9-6’4 pgs lol dunking is bad even with the update.

24 gameplay was perfect. I said what I said. Dribbling was better, shooting was better, dunking was better, defense was iffy but was able to be done. I’m the same way bro, the fact that there’s no pure green window for 3s makes it too much. There’s no go to moves to get open, it’s all trying to catch and shoot or screen. I HATE 2k25 if we’re being real, dare I say, this is the worst 2k since 18.

If you really like basketball, you like the realism, moving the ball to create space, work together on defence.. I see people playing they can’t see a single cut on the basket, they don’t know how to play pick and rolls, they just wanna left and right, and now that is difficult for them cos they don’t know how to play basketball they CRY !

I recently made a 99 driving dunk and 91 SWB with +1 for Legend Lightning Launch and I can just straight straight at the basket and get a dunk every single possession unless there is a 7ft player with 90+ strength and 85+ interior just sitting under the basket. I’ve got more than 3 minutes worth of contact dunk footage in under 4 hours of play.

Since the introduction of next gen consoles (newer gameplay engines) and nba live being out of the competition, 2k has gone from the original arcade game it was to a simulation. NBA live was the game of simulation and “realistic” basketball and people didn’t care too much for it. Since they left, 2k pretty much has freedom and chose to go the route of realism as the problems with cheating, zens, and complaints about unrealistic abilities were occurring in their games. The presence of more cheats, no competition, and next gen are the reasons for why 2k is where it is now.

For me, I’m just a casual player. I asked her enjoy playing this 2k . Better than the rest of them because of the realistic game play it gives me a chance to compete with high level players that plays the game so whoever steps on the spot you may lose the game but I’m not afraid of what they can do. A lot of guys that I used to play with they do not like the game because they can’t do all the cheesy moves . So they stopped playing the game.

This is the most fun I've had on 2k in a while. There's no "cheesing" moves or animations or mechanics. Everybody want arcade like dribble or whatever, when we had it and it kept getting tweaked over and over. If people only want to watch a KZbinr because of less arcade like dribbling or cheesy over the top moves then you don't really support that content or KZbinr. Also there's nothing 2K can do to please everybody. Ever.

I like the more realistic gameplay because I feel like there’s more competition in games there’s no more blowouts from sweats who live on the game I’m just a casual 2k player and been playing for years I’m not a stud at the game by any means but I like the more level playing field and it being more realistic and not being able to hit shots that are impossible and unrealistic… just my opinion and I’m sure it’ll be an unpopular one so don’t come for me plz lol

I’ve been with 2K since day one. 2K25 online is ridiculous imo. It’s hard for me to enjoy it. Yes I’m a casual. Too many missed wide open shots. MP doesn’t play the same like he does offline. Online simply isn’t fun for me.

The problem is the arcadeness really only favors one side of the ball. I stopped playing 2k for a few years after 2k20 cause the defense continued to get worse and worse. I wouldn't have a problem with the arcade-like gameplay of the defense could keep up but it rarely does. But if the community keeps asking for arcade gameplay it's going to get to a point where more and more whites will go in. Then ppl asked for a patch for Lane Steals, which were necessary because.....LANE STEALS WERE UNREALISTIC, i.e. the lane steals were arcade-like. Seems as if the community only arcade-like gameplay if it favors the offense. The community would be in an uproar of you seen players averaging 10+ blocks a game. Defense gets nerfed every year. Sometimes necessary(lane steals) sometimes it's not(onball defense in some past 2ks). Balance is key for the best product.... What's wrong with keeping arcade play in the park?? Players want to bring arcade gameplay to 5v5 modes where it should not be in imo....

2k has shown us for years that either the game is glitchy/ fun or realistic/comp. And I always side with glitchy as a casual.
