Great way of wrapping. Currently, I wrap mine in kraft paper and apply one label to the front and the ingredient label to the rear that helps the glue from the glue stick (yep, I use them too, the purple one because I got a good deal on them) hold until it dries. Gives it a country type feel. Thanks for the video.

Simple and brilliant packaging! Plus people can still smell the soap fragrance. Would love to see a video on label wording regulations. Is it better to list "Saponified" oils so people won't freak out reading "sodium hydroxide" ...not understanding it has transformed? I always look forward to your no- nonsense videos!
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 4 жыл бұрын
Not really. My understanding is that small producers like us can't label in that manner. It's something to do with testing, etc... But I find that simple language like we use doesn't really deter sales 😁

Thank you for this video!!! I’ve just started making soap, and want to give a Christmas presents. I see a lot of ppl use shrink wrap, but I feel like this is a better alternative for the environment! And easier to take off! Oh also, could you do a video on how to put the ingredients on the label? Like, how do you figure which order to put them in, if that matters? I’d like to put the ingredients on the label, but don’t know if there’s a “right way”. By the way, I love your intro!
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks!. So... Ingredients basically need to go on in order on volume. Largest volume goes first and then work your way down to least. I just use common names of the oils and materials like olive oil, water, fragrance, etc... You can get into the Latin names if you want but I refuse..lol. It's my understanding that we can't leave it lye on the label and use the finished product terms like "sodium tallowate". I think that's reserved for companies who have their soap lab tested when finished. Hope that gives you a start. Maybe I can do a video soon.
@spontos26532

Uncle Jon's thank you for the quick response! I think a video would be great hehehehe. But I do kinda understand what you mean by putting them in order of volume :) Thanks again 😊

Lovely video...question why you don’t use shrink wrap?
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 4 жыл бұрын
Because natural soap tends to sweat and go rancid or bad quicker when sealed up. Plus,they would then be using more plastic. While we do use some plastics in our business, I do try to find viable alternatives where we can😁

I just started labeling my Soaps about 2 weeks ago and this is actually what I started doing. Although the band I've been using to keep the soap from sliding is 1cm instead of the length you used in this video; simply so I can get more strips. Is there a reason that you use nearly full width strip instead of a thinner one?
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 4 жыл бұрын
When we went with something too thin for the horizontal colored paper it just didn't look as good. We also needed it to be fairly identifiable from the side for several reasons. Also, we find that the bars getting handled in the shield by customers needed to withstand a bit of abuse. The barrier strip just didn't hold up as well in the long term. And, paper is cheap and compostable. So, it doesn't hurt to use a little bit more 😁
@keithbland9023
@keithbland9023 4 жыл бұрын
@@unclejonssoap interesting point that I hadn't considered. I didnt even try a wider band, I went with the bandaid methodology; throw it on and drive on. I'll try a wider band to see what it looks like. Thanks! Note: instead of my band being horizontal mines vertical.

Sometimes they do. It depends on what fragrances are used and how fresh they are. If cured, then they are usually good.

Do you make a probiotic healing soap for dandruff / seborrhea/eczema And can you use these soaps as a shampoo? Are they gentle enough or damaging to hair .
@unclejonssoap
@unclejonssoap 4 жыл бұрын
Our soaps are all very gentle on skin and hair. But, they aren't probiotic. Unfortunately, handmade soaps cannot be labeled as medications for skin conditions. It's not legal in our industry unless we have each component lab tested and approved by the FDA. But, I always recommend our soaps for their gentleness and cleansing properties.
