that is because it is a much older song, that eventually became an Appalachian folk song. It's been 'bluegrassified' here. I actually prefer the more traditional rendition of the song for that reason, there is a disconnect between the feel of the rhythm/embellishments, and the content of lyrics. This is pretty great though.

Damn, when she held that note, I almost fell out of my chair, and the look on Mr. Stanley's face was priceless. This video, along with the Patty Loveless/Ricky Scaggs video of Daniel Prayed, are just two good reasons why Ms. Loveless is THE best country singer of her generation ... or any generation. This is different than the Pretty Polly that my Grandma used to sing. She sang, Pretty Polly pretty Polly over yonder she stands, with a golden ring on your lily white hands. Or maybe there are different verses, not included here. Brings back memories of my grandmother, who had a very hard life and lost the love of her life by a shooting within the family.
