This was the best short I've seen about Detroit, then and know. It was a top notch production, thank you for the time spent putting it all together. Would love to see you all put together shorts on the Grand movie houses, or Ballrooms. We've lost so much beautiful architecture. Great job! .

Nicely done! Loved the way you faded in and out between the old and the new. Just wish it was longer! I could have watched quite a bit more. Thanks for sharing this!

I was born in 93. My parents moved us to Detroit in the late 90’s. My father interned with the redwings and the pistons before he ran rock master for the tigers. I grew up going to OG Tiger stadium before they moved to comerica park. I went to pre-school on one of the top floors of the Fox theater with Mike Illitch’s grandson - Fox Tots. After high school my friends and I would take late night drives over to the abandoned plant and climb to the top of it, then just sit there on the roof listening to music and smoking pot and drinking looking at the cityscape illuminating the night. Crappy time in my life but food memories

What an incredible industrial complex. It's hard to comprehend the scope of the operation and all the jobs it provided. Now I understand plans for redevelopment have fallen through and it's back to a derelict facility once again.

I love the way you match it up, shot for shot. But the fading was too slow, IMO. And then you didn't hold the final image long enough.

The Studebakers bought Packard and then they took the quality out of Packards and then Cadillac was catching up in the early 50's. It's sad when someone takes over and then drains quality out of the product.

It was Packard that bought Studebaker, after that, Curtiss Wright took over.

@Train Nerd No, whites moved out of Detroit which took much of the tax base out because of lower population.
@dannydaw594 жыл бұрын
@Train Nerd Whites aren't in unions? Unions existed when Detroit was great. Unions made Detroit great.. I did the opposite of proving your point.
@dannydaw594 жыл бұрын
@Train Nerd Those conspiracy theories are in your own mind. The whites just wanted somewhere safe to live with good schools. Many white business owners had their shops looted and burned in the 1967 riots. They said "screw this I'm outa here."

This quiet dust was gentlemen and ladies And lads and girls; Was laughter and ability and sighing, And frocks and curls; This passive place a summer's nimble mansion, Where bloom and bees Fulfilled their oriental circuit, Then ceased like these.

Restored? There seems to be a lot of very extensive damage...although the houses I've seen online used to be stunning. Where is the money coming from? Concerned that the initial problem was strong reliance on one industry. If one type of industry is what's there, isn't that a good amount of the problem? I do like the idea. But...I hope it works...I've seen Michael Moore's "Roger and me" about Flint, years ago...

Apparently the reason trees grow on the roof is because it is solid concrete and completely watertight. These photos show debris cleared from the inside last month. packardplantproject.com/news/

Attention Packard fans. Read this closely, the Packard plant won't look like this for long. It's being restored. Work started last year. Will also be a Packard museum in the restored plant. Close to 90% of plant is salvagable. This will also help bring jobs and bring this part of Detroit back like it did 100 years ago. Not fiction, google..
