I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

You were talking about your decision to start uploading in 4k, and I just wanted to give feedback and say there is a noticeable difference, like being able to see the first flows of water coming through, or the individual bits of stuff floating in the water. The 4k uploads and the extra time it takes is much appreciated

I really enjoy post videos and think its good work and chill to watch.

That’s because beavers are what’s known as a keystone species which means they are essential to the survival of the ecosystem (and the planet). They create wetlands which is the foundation for all other species. Also, if they would reintroduce thousands of beavers back into California they wouldn’t have nearly as many forest fires or mudslides .

My garden cultivator is 55 inches long. I keep the grate at the bottom of a dam on Thorndike Brook, Ragged Mountain Maine. After heavy rain, the swamp grass gets on it. The dam is 9 feet high with a 7 foot high spillway in the middle and it is 70 years old. They installed an aluminium footbridge that spans the entire dam 3 years ago. But the grate on the upstream side of the base of the dam is heavy iron bars and it is 70 years old also from when the dam was built. The grate is 5 feet high and 4 feet wide with iron bars 6 inches apart up and down.

After watching a few of these unclog the beaver dam videos, the question occurs to me : Why use corrugated pipe where beaver dams are a problem? The corrugations allow the wood log pieces and mud and debris to "lock onto" the pipe interior. If a smooth bore pipe were used, blockages would slide through. Of course, logs placed across the entrance would still block the water flow, but a smooth bore pipe would make it easier to dismantle and dispose of the dam.

Water retention by beaver dams and log jams are a crucial part of the health of any land, especially those in drought areas - the longer flows help create so much habitat for fish and other species. Moreover, woody debris is an integral for river health and erosion control. It is not only natural, but critical for the health functions of the river / forest. The only problem is when human infrastructure gets in the mix. This is why Post stopped dismantling dams and jams, as long as they don't endanger human structures! It does make me sad to see so many other channels that remove these important tools for water management without discrimination.
