I was born from 2 very strong tribes in the Philippines Cordillera region. Ifugao and Benguet, particularly, Ayangan and Kankana-ey. The Cordillera is an ACTUAL representation of this “what if” video since it has never been colonized by Spain. Our cultures and traditions have been preserved in way, though we lost quite a few over the decades. However, the history, traits, features of our ancestors are very much alive. The cities and towns now resemble that of a modern society but we still have homesteads and villages that are intact. Our core characteristics is also different from that of the lowlands. We still don’t have gender-based roles… men and women always respect each other’s strengths and weaknesses

As a filipino, i appreciated the effort. It's my dream to one day see what could have been a possible architecture, clothing, and beliefs without the interference of colonization or western powers. It's pretty close but I hope to see more gold in our bodies and tattoos with different colors. The tattoos could have evolved and became colorful and become a symbol of social status or hierarchy or good luck. The architecture in the video is amazing and possible. The east asian influences as well as southeast may be that evident. Our religion might have been not only islam but animism or hindu buddhist. Our creativity of our own people would be seen by the designs. Baybayin is our national script and it should be revived and used more in our society.

You can just look at our neighboring countries such as Indonesia if you want to picture a what if of Philippines. I had a history professor who studied all about this topic. I remember he said, if the country wasn't colonized the people would be more diverse culturally and politically (regionalistic in a sense and is still is now), most likely muslim, and very hierarchal in class or there is status tied to your ancestry (likened to the known caste system of India). Also I recall, the people were more proud of their bodies and conscious of the color of skin, meaning the men and women does not necessarily wear clothes. There would be more tattoos, there are accounts that women were topless have tattoos and even considered as high class in the society. And the bias of a whiter skin color (we can still see this now).

True, what I find ironic in the Philippines is that being light skin or having a sharp nose/coloured eyes is immediately associated with a foreigner, but everyone in my small Lemurian clan is either a combination of light skin, coloured eyes and even light brown hair, it's just our birth rates are not high compared to other clans, tribes or ethnicities. Btw. Luis Cruz is my internet alias not my actual native name, and no, we don't have any espanyol blood in our family. Hopefully, Filipinos can stop labelling and stop being ignorant of our many differences 🎉

Not a Filipino, but have travel there and other countries as well. I could be wrong, but I experienced more more of a Spanish feel to the countries more than other Asian countries. Visiting PH was kind somewhat like visiting Mexico (and other South American countries). Lots of similarities in the structure of the cities and culture of the people more so that when I visited Japan, Thai, Laos, S. Korea or Nam. Even the food has a big Spanish influence. Very few areas of the PH did I feel as if I was in an Asian country. Would have like to see more of The Aeta influences and history in the video, but was highly educational and enjoyable.

The country was colonized for a good 300+ years, so a lot of the different local cultures were essentially purged by Spanish Christianization, being predominantly pagan. Technology, craft, art, architecture, fashion, literature. So much of that unique mix is lost to time. Further, the country was essentially sold to the US by the end of the 19th century. We were virtually governed by them until the second world war, so we went through the advent of industrialization and much progress under American influence. That's why almost all developed areas (which you were exposed to) are very much that. Indeed you can compare us to Mexico: a mashup of American ideals, Spanish religiosity, and persistent local lores & beliefs that are new yet also familiar. Well, all that with a mixed-Asian twist, and a good helping of Islamic.

Yo the art and concepts are so good and shiny as hell haha... Because Spain got here during the 1500's then If not, then it will be Chinese-like specially in the Northern Luzon, and there will be more Chinese people like descended from East Asian pirates in Lingayen Gulf proximity, or we'd be taken over by the newly unified Japan much earlier. Or also, we'd be having sea battles with the East Asian Wokou pirates who only got defeated by Spanish fleets because of their superior cannons and guns but the Chinese recognize the Samurai's katana to be effective enough specially when boarding enemy ships for melee fights which the pirates are known to use even their famed naginata polearm. So if anything despite our ancestors' brutal competence and strength in warfare, they might have had issue dealing with the pirates and maybe even the invading Samurais of Hideyoshi who also already incorporated using muskets by that time--meaning not only they might be superior in melee fights, they could also be more superior in ranged battles. Lastly, due to our mountainous geography, with our disunited tribal ancestors, we were doomed to be colonized one way or another because at that time the world was already beginning to change rapidly

We Filipinos today were shaped by both forces indigenous and European roots coming together. Like the Violent and turbulent nature of a new Island rising out the sea. So did we Filipinos. We Filipinos are a new people a product of two forces coming together as one.

I would like to know what the country would be named if it was never named after King Philip. also what did filipinos call it before the spanish came? i guess each territory had its own name. i guess before then all the islands weren't together as one country so if spain never came would it still be all separate islands or would it have eventually all became one country as it is today but with a different name then Philippines. What would the country be called or who would it have been named after? which filipino would have been the one to bring the islands all together as one country ? ...watching from USA here

The colonization of Spañards created adverse changes to the culture of Philippines, especially the religion from Philippines' original religion (either Animism or Ancestral) to Christianity. They had not only obtrude our culture but also manipulated and abused our ancestors. I can't imagine how the lives of our ancestors during that period. The colonization left least from our culture, we merely lost our identify as true race. However, it's in the past and we're living in present. The only thing we can do is recognize and preserve what we have left. Mabuhay!

Of course the name philippines is not philippines anymore.👎 Is Just an Asian Islands owned by different asian traders👍 and they have freedom to trade with other asians, without influence of spaniards and american invaders who used bible to brainwash the mind of the young asians😂 Philippines name came from spaniards under the name of king philip ll of european spain empire😂 And the spaniards sell the Philippines by the american invaders😂 That is the reality 😂

Check the audio quality - it is totally absent from 4:26 to 6:30. It is an interesting subject, and I would love to hear it rightly. Btw, I wonder why a foreign colonization should disrupt so much as in Philippines. I am an Indian Hindu, and my country was colonized by Muslims from Turky, Arab, Iran and Afghanistan/Mongolia and later by British and other Europeans, for over a thousand year, but we still have retained our old heritage, languages, religions and cultures (may be a bit influenced by the rulers). I failed to understand why, same thing was missing in Philippines. In that sense, India should have been a Christian or Islamic country as Philippines are mostly Christians which is not their native religion. When will they raise against their past colonization?

Regardless filipinos for me are one of the most beautiful people in the world. I love how our dark skin color were before. Its flawless. Now all they do is taking pills to look whiter. It wouldve be best if we retained our own skin color. Our skin color are unique. I really appreciate our dark skin tone. I usually dont call it dark. But just a tan tone & its so beautiful. My foreign inlaws love our color. I dunno why lots of filipinos want to be white in tones. Our skin tone is unique. We should love it more bcos that is one of our traits.

Without colonization, there will be no united country now called the Philippines, but small separated kingdoms. There would be no visitas that forcefully combined settlements now called as towns and cities, which was initiated by the Spaniards to easily govern the people. The culture would remain rich in natural resources like gold and silver. With no united identity, the islands would be more isolated, some islands would be much poorer while kingdoms with strong trades would flourish all the more. I highly appreciate the imagination of this video tho.

I went to the Philippines because the primitive and simple way of life is appealing to me. I grew up in a materialistic world. I didn't want a woman who is materialistic. But I found out Filipino looks down on the farmers and the fisherman. And that hurt me, a foreigner to hear that. I enjoyed living in a nepa hut. It's like camping. When I was in United States and my rich parents took me camping, I enjoyed that more than the things they bought me. When I left home when I grew up, I lived off grid and my parents hated me for that. But I enjoyed eating wild mushrooms and fishing and collecting oysters and hunting. They thought I was crazy. No white women would live like that. But I thought maybe a Filipino girl would. She was confused like most Filipino's how I was happy living like them. Humble. Close to the earth. Sure, I want a motorcycle and a chainsaw and a comfortable bed, but I like the humble lifestyle of Filipino. My wife lived off grid for about 8 years with our two daughters 😅. I was very happy and so were the kids. But Filipina wife turned materialistic and a gambler at casinos. So we are living in a nice expensive house now in California. My daughter's aren't so happy and I hate it but the wife is happy. The kids and I talk about how happy we were living in the woods away from most people. My wife now driving the Mercedes she dreamed about. When my kids grow up in 5 years, to be happy I'm just going to divorce this materialistic Filipina. Are all Filipina greedy and materialistic ? I hope not. Going to go back see if I can find a Filipina that wants to live a humble life. This video shows that some Filipino want to stick to their roots. Sounds fun to me. I have 3 uncles who dumped their materialistic wife and happy living in the woods. One way or another, that's my end too.
