May I have a request? By the way, love your videos. My request is that when you have a friend that every time you go out with them and they always talk bad about the other friends and you don’t want to hear about it and you don’t know what to tell her to stop in a nice way. I do like to spend time with her, but would like to talk about fun stuff or some events. Thank you in advance.

It's a problem even in your first language! I think new people use it as a way of gauging how strong your boundaries are. People can ask, it's up to us to decide whether to answer or not and how. In fact, it's an important thing to know, or people will take advantage of you and become even ruder.

I remember being asked a personal question by one of my Aunts during my older brother’s wedding last year lol! She was sitting next to me in the marquee in our garden and started asking me things like, So you’re 26 at the moment so are you ready for marriage? And when I said “no, not yet,” she asked: Why is that? Is it because your family are not allowing you to? I then told her that I’m just not ready for it yet and she goes: Do you ever stress about marriage or something? I then said that I don’t feel comfortable talking about that and walked away with one of my friends.

Hi Annemarie mam, It's a great lesson" How to deal with uncomfortable questions." Sometimes I don't want to answer unwanted questions or infact I am not comfortable. In this video you explained very nicely how to deal with that questions. * Sorry, is it ok if we talk about something else or we change the subject? * My lips are sealed on that. * I don't really feel comfortable discussing that. Thank you so much 😊

How many subscribers do you have on your channel? Are you rich? Do you love money 💰 Finally I think if someone asks me uncomfortable Question I will say to him that it’s not your business. Maybe you can help me. It's April 2021, cvid times. More awkward than what you mention here: how 'bout, Are you vaccinated? when everyone expects you to be, wants you to be, and hopes you are, and you're not. I understand the panic generating the concern, but i find medical stuff personal and private between me and my doctor, and i have a valid answer that is a long answer, and i don't want to get into it... I am torn. Thanks for any help on this. Very good video, thank you.
@Speakconfidentenglish3 жыл бұрын
This is such a good question! This has definitely become a common question and, for some people, can be uncomfortable. The key is the motivation behind the question. Are people asking because they want to see you, they genuinely care about you, and they want to be safe? Are are they asking out of personal curiosity or to make a judgement. In the end, it's your decision to share details. If you feel comfortable sharing your answer with someone because they truly care about you, then you can answer as much or as little as you want. But if you prefer not to say, you could simply state: 1. I'm not yet vaccinated. 2. I'm not yet vaccinated. It's a long story that I don't want to get into. Or use an alternative from this lesson. I hope that helps.

I've had people open a subject, give lots of info and when you respond to show you're listening and interested throw a tantrum because you're being intrusive. That's manipulative. They want attention from you that's all.

Hi Annemarie (what a beautiful name by the way), I have an idea for a video, something that I’m struggling with every day actually. So I work at a retail store and always act very professional. But! Sometimes men try to take our conversation the other way, and, well, hit on me. I know it the second they start asking something about me, but I can’t just say: “don’t waste your time, I have a boyfriend”. I try to always bring conversation back to the products I’m selling but then they seem to get upset. Is there a nicer way? Thanks!

@Speakconfidentenglish5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kranthi, that's a good question. A lot of people in the United States are curious about why people move to a new country - is it for a new job, better opportunities, just for fun? If the question doesn't make you feel uncomfortable AND if it's asked with curiosity (not rudeness), then it could be a great question for conversation. How do you feel when most people ask it?
@kranthichitty56175 жыл бұрын
@@SpeakconfidentenglishThankfully, I don't feel bad about that question . I just answer them because of the job. As you said , it's a good conversation starter I guess.

My response always as one can find here: ""Thank you for asking, I appreciate your interest. However, I prefer to keep that aspect of my life private for now. I hope you understand. Is there anything else you'd like to talk about?" This response acknowledges the question while politely declining to answer. It also opens the door for the conversation to shift to a different topic, showing that you're still open to engaging with the person. Remember to maintain a friendly and respectful tone throughout the interaction!
