Beautiful perspective of jiujitsu! I love rolling with people who share this same way of thinking. We’re not just trying to break each other’s limbs- we’re trying to get better. If you have a submission you know you can finish, that’s the win you’re looking for, but then giving the guy an opportunity to escape or defend makes HIS game better and YOUR game better. That’s when the real fun in jiujitsu happens for me.

I used do this all the time when one of my primary training partners was much, much smaller than me. I set up my primary submissions on her and then let her start her escapes so I could find my next steps. Super valuable.
