Now, you may be wondering what exactly I'm talking about when I say the word "unconventional". Now, we typically see a certain array of colors worn by most men whether it's a professional or a casual setting. Now, this would include shades of blue, gray, or brown, also black. Then there are some color options that are much more whimsical, especially in comparison to their more classic counterparts. Now, despite that these colors might be considered unconventional, at the right time or place they can be accepted.
So what exactly are unconventional suit colors? Well, let's look at the word unconventional The definition of unconventional is not based on or conforming to what is generally done or believed. Now, over history, we have seen men time and time again tend to gravitate towards neutral and dark tones for suits but there is an array of color options which some might also like to wear. For example, some might be yellow, green, purple, bright red, even orange. Some trendy brands would like to use some of these loud colors when developing a whimsical pattern or a unique fabric. Now you might be wondering how exactly you can differ between classic and more modern styles when it comes to color palette for your suits.
Landing on the more modern style of color options, instead of a navy suit perhaps somebody is wearing a bright blue colored suit and instead of a black maybe they're choosing for something more punchy like a red or an orange color. These styles probably will not last long during the test of time but because they're popular, they're often quickly adopted by fashion enthusiasts. Now, although we are talking about two different sides of the spectrum in terms of classic and modern style, there are some ways you can marry both of these styles together properly.
First, wearing a dark colored suit and then also trying to infuse that option with brighter colors in your accessories, for example, for a more modern approach. And also, you could try wearing a more bright colored and modern suit but toning it down a little bit with some darker elements, maybe with your shoes or the tie option you choose.
How to find the best unconventional colors for yourself.
One of the first things you want to consider when you're picking your colors is where are you going? Now for an example, let's say you're out dining with friends, this is a great time to have your suit color choice be more moderately colorful. Having a warm touch of color or having a neutral base with some color woven for your overall suit.
Next, let's consider a possible wedding for former classmate of yours. Now, some wedding parties can have a very strict dress code for their attendants. Now, if this is not the rule for the wedding you are attending, consider wearing something more traditional leaning for your outfit choice. Meaning, instead of wearing a traditional navy, you could try a more bright blue or instead of a charcoal, try wearing a light gray.
Next example, let's consider your getting ready for a job interview.
Depending on the type of job you are interviewing for, it might be helpful for you to try to incorporate some of the company colors into your outfit.
You also want to pay attention to seasonality when you're selecting your different colors and the fabric weight. Now, if you're anything like me and you get warm quite easily in the warmer months, you probably are going to prefer a lighter weight fabric and something that breathes a little bit better. There are often a lot of great bold and bright color options available in these warmer months. Now, in the cooler months, it might be more advantageous for you to try to opt for a darker color of suit in contrast to the lack of colors you're going to be seeing outside. Now in addition to black, gray, or navy, try adding in camel or burgundy or an olive and for some fun, the classic black watch pattern is always a great option.

In the Uk we still do have what is called the national Hunt Season, where dress code both before during and after the hunt are equally important as to which stud you sourced your horse from. I know that you will find this amusing but the American way of life has not whole heartedly been adopted in the Uk!!

I picked up a ralph lauren salmon colored suit from macys on clearance, more than 90% off. I couldn't help myself. After doing some image searches, i've concluded that the color wheel matching system would make me look like bozo the clown, so I looked a little harder and decided on burgundy as an accent color for tie, vest, and pocket square and plain white shirt, with my brown dress shoes.

The main problem with bright and loud suits like a red or a bright green is that you can't wear them too many times. Imagine your friends seeing you on a red suit or coat 5 times in a row or going to the same coffee shop 3 times with the same loud outfit. Ridiculous. You need lots of outfits and money to go the loud route. Yannis Antetokounmpo can afford to wear a pink suit because its usually for one event only. And we both use the same tailor who has given me the info above ;)

you have LOADS of shades of red. there is not only stoplight red. you alo have toned down reds, wine reds, brouwnish reds, aubergine and dark reds.....depending on the shade, they become more neutral/wearable on different occasions

Charity shops are good to find different colour suits. Some people use few times and give up on them. I found an excellent dark green 2 pieces suit for £3.00 in a charity shop here and an offwhite linen jacket for £6.00. Both in great condition, I often use them at work (the green in cold seasons, the linen during warm seasons) and am often complimented. This channel changed the way I see clothing and the reflect on my career was unquestionable!

A have a dark olive suit. It is very different from standard Olive like Charcoal is different from standard grey. I like it as a unconventional dark color, especially when wearing it as a sports jacket with dark blue or tan/pebble khaki pants.

A bit off-topic but not too far, I am a minimalist and am attempting to simplify my life in every way possible this includes my wardrobe. I was able to minimalize my wardrobe to my everyday wear being black jeans with either a grey or black shirt. I own a pair of blue jeans and a few collared shirts but no suits. I want to build a nice collection of nicer wear like mentioned in the video but i'm not sure how much a "gentleman" should possess along with the other items like ties, cufflinks, watches, shoes etc. It feels as if me wanting these two things is in conflict with the other.

Taking a classic shilouete or piece, and switching it up into the unexpected, at least one or two in your wardrobe, asserts you are not only of taste, you have a style bespeaking your personal tastes. Who wouldn't prefer to be know for a personal style, then just taste. And style if wisely applied, fits in anywhere.. Editing is key and understatement for men, is a move that always gets you noticed. Think that its not the accenting, but the underling people will notice. The best way to display a Jewel is against a black cloth, true? And this advise can make even the man of lesser means as fashionable as a . King.. Fashion and the like may come and go,and tastes thereby follow...but style can carry you through life, and in end is most remembered...

Honestly, if ur a good looking guy and the suit is tailored to your body you can ( almost ) make any colour work imo as long as the rest of the outfit complements/ doesnt get in the way of the suit

To be honest, I wouldn’t consider green, or at least some shades of green, as an unconventional. Shades of green are quite prevalent colors for tweed fabrics, both for odd jackets and suits. Similarly, olive is a common color for twill and poplin cotton fabrics, especially for summer suiting. Certainly, some shades of green are not as well adapted for men’s suits, but that is even true for some blue shades.

Though I like the unconventional colours for sportcoats, I feel like a suit is a bit too formal for most of the colours mentioned. Also I really dislike the outfit with your bright blue suit. I love the colour, but the jacket is too short in the sleeves, too tight in the chest and waist, and the side vents sit a bit weird on your bum because the jacket is shorter than regular. Also I think brown shoes would have suited your outfit better, and those black wingtips look either cheap or just badly maintained
