I remember when those cameras came out. It felt futuristic at the time. The shape of the camera no longer had to match its function. It felt like other things were going to break out of their standard shapes and sizes. Life was going to be more interesting.

I love Olympus cameras, I’d love to own the Ecru and O-Product some day. I think that power switch is on the front because with it basically being a Stylus/Mju the motion of the switch is similar to sliding the clamshell on the switch. That on/off switch is basically the same travel motion for the clamshell on the Mju to go from on to off. I owned the Olympus LT-1 at one point and it was basically a leather wrapped Mju, it replaced the clamshell with a power switch similar to your Ecru, the power switch and leather wrap was really annoying, making it more complicated to use an otherwise simple camera. I think those Olympus engineers found a way to put the same camera in different housings without having to change much of the internals and sell us these limited edition or “luxury” versions.
