I saw part three first, was impressed enough, but wondered if I should see the first two. And the surprise to see the state of the area, at the start! You have put in so much work already, and I am excited to follow the process!

How exciting.I love to see an old place brought back from the brink ,and these days there’s quite a few of those going on ,and I marvel at the enterprising souls taking them on and working miracles.I look forward to seeing your miracle take shape.Thank you.❤

I'm glad you took the advice of other not to pull the old building down. That is a piece of our history and as you said, someone had a life there and probably raised a family there. With the price of property these days too making it so difficult for young people to get onto the property ladder it would definitely be worth keeping and maybe doing something with it for your kids possibly. I just think it would be class to save the old building anyway.

I'm not sure the cottage is completely recoverable, but I applaud the man's idea ... something from the past 'up if not actually running again' stirs a part of my soul.

I'm *not* second-guessing! You're getting it done and fast! I'm just sharing my thoughts. I saw a later video first, when the house is an island in gravel. Seeing how wide the little woods were, I'm surprised you didn't leave a tree or two, out from the house a bit. I guess it might be a construction thing. Or wanting to choose your own plantings, maybe? Ah. Partly because of the power lines.

Great project Adrian, right up my street. I love to preserve as much old stuff around the place as possible rather than going in all gun's blazing - when you think of the effort and work put into these building's back in the day, the least we can do is give it some respect.

Don't know what you call that wood in the ceiling over there, but in the US we call it 'tongue in groove.' You remind me of my Irish half, my Dad. He was never happier than when he was fixing, repairing or building something. Your enthusiasm for this old cottage is contagious. Good luck to you!

A very satisfying day's work! And you can't but like a man who, spending his day out in the fresh air, working the land and cutting down trees but still needs a pine scented air freshener in the cab of his tractor. "You don't get much more Irish than that!" as me Grannie used to say!

I think cutting wood brings us back to the roots of humanity and necessity. It taps into the fundamentals of survival, something most of us lost a long time ago. It embraces the simplicity of life, it encourages the manhood of working with your hands. Thats why cutting wood feels good even when it doesnt.

A lot of people on here are saying get it done up and rented out but I think differently Adrian, I say tidy it up and everything so you can see what your working with and if you do things slowly it’ll be done by the time your children are ready for it, the biggest thing to do with it is to not rush, get it planned out and think things through, last thing you want is to make a mess of it for the next generation. No cutting corners or anything, do it once and do it right
@IFarmWeFarm
@IFarmWeFarm Жыл бұрын
Yes I agree, i like taking my time and doing a bit of research first. I will definitely do my best to get it right. First thing will be to make it water tight so it doesn’t deteriorate any further and then see what we can and can’t do regarding regulations. Looking forward to the challenge as this is the type work I really enjoy. 👍

At first I was like-why would you cut down those mature trees?! And then I saw how close to the building they were-grown trees. No trees should within several meters of building, if you don't want it to collapse. As my granddad always says-as tall as tree is above ground as big are its roots beneath. Plus the possibility of tree colapsing on the building. So it is actually logical to cut them and perhaps if you want some trees you can plant new ones further away. I am looking foward what will come from this project. I definitely think it's worth keeping the structure.

While chainsaws have replaced bowsaws and two man crosscut saws - called the 'misery whip' in the US due to the muscle aches it produced later - the clearing of land and improving land for man's use is something that goes back to the dawn of time; so its no wonder there is some calm sense of satisfaction when doing such work - its a big part of our evolution and so in our DNA 😉 Oh, and tractors !
