Tradition upholds that God dictated the first five books of the Bible to Moses. The Bible says millions of people witnessed this event, but what can archaeology prove about this fact? Could it really be Moses himself who wrote down the words of God, or could there be new research challenging this history?

From what I have been able to research the Bible had at least 40 different authors. Who wrote down the scriptures over many generations through hundreds of years of time. And that the main theme of the Bible points to the Massiah through profetic scripture. You can look back through time and see that many of those proficies actually came to be fullfilled. One of my favorites is when Alexander the Great read about himself a prophecy written 150 years before about his conquest of Jeruselam. It was because of this pophecy that the Lews opened the city to him without a fight.

As in much of the varied histories of populations, there is an oral tradition of handing down previous knowledge. With very few working out writing systems to record a version. Due to this , the various stories handed down tend to become distorted and changed by the next authors. Eventually, there comes a time in which correlations are put together and a canonization of a story is issued. Linguists, have determined that the oldest language form used in the Old Testament is the book of Exodus, based on the nature of how both oral and written languages change over periods of time. It is generally considered that the Torah in a written form in Hebrew was not codified until the exile in Babylonia. By that time, the various language forms currently inscribed had undergone many generational changes and adaptations save for the original story that was probably told as a song poem. Even today, the longest lasting commentaries of a time are handed down in songs. Much of the actual information involved can be attributed to the successors of Moses. And their interpretation of the factual information and the need to form a code of behavior that could be controlled by a unifying authority. Initially this would have been the priestly class, with their assertion that Moses gave them that power. This type of initial power structure has has a representation in the beginnings of the United States. Where the structure was taken from the religious realm and placed into the secular. At the time of the Exodus however the accepted power structure had been the balance between the Pharaoh and the priests. Initially, Moses would have been considered as the Pharaoh of the Hebrews. By the followers, with those he trusted becoming his priestly administrators. ( think chosen ministers in a dictatorship). Even when the Pharaoh dies, the ministers remains deeply take over the reins of power and with no specific crowned head, such power expands through initiative to become the administrators usually referred to in the book of Judges. Based upon the historical narratives, this period if the Judges, coincides with the period post Hyksos in what would become known as Israel, as they would have already had forty years in the administration of civil disputes. And in both Leviticus and Deuteronomy, there are passages the remind the Hebrews that they were welcomed into Egypt and treated well, a reference that although they were back in Canaan, they were still friends with the Dynastic Pharaohs, that still trusted them with the administration of Egyptian lands. By reading history it can be considered that prior to the Egyptians chasing out the Hyksos incursion ( of circa 200 years) the entire Levant was not under the control of any type of empire or outside civilization, but was more of City/ State form. Since Exodus can be viewed as a narrative of a pert of history, from one viewpoint, then to provide a greater context, there needed to be a prequel. . Therefore Genesis was written that included ancient stories in the Babylonian populace, and a departure from that civilization by Abraham, along with a continued saga of a family finally bringing them into Egypt some 435 Years before the Exodus. There is another parallel that can be used as a comparison. It has long been known the in the “Star Wars” series, there was an attempt to retell ancient stories. And that as part of the preparation work by George Lucas, he had conversations with Philosopher, Joseph Campbell. It is why it was decided to start the story with Episode 4. As with the book of Exodus, only a small forward was necessary to set up the conditions for the story. The saga continues with episodes of 5 and 6 before having their prequels of episodes 1,2,3. In The Old Testament, Genesis is considered as Episodes 1,2,3,4. As being Creation- through the killing of Abel, The Flood and the repopulation, Lot and the judgement, and Abraham and his descendants.

I’m not appreciating that the host of this episode is coming in with a biased viewpoint and therefore agenda. I was hoping for more objective standpoint for obvious reasons. Obvious reasons being that humans are religion, religion is humans. Religion wouldnt exist without humans and is a system of rules and beliefs created by man. So to have this man trying to prove a theory that many other religious people beleive, i’m not really caring about your theory anymore because it has emotion , ego and judgement attached to it, it no longer becomes real research when he’s trying to prove a biased belief he has. I’m walking away from this not learning anything other than this supposed disproving that the bible was stitched together by someone, and even that had the tone of ‘i proved all you believers of that theory wrong and i feel good about that’. Honestly, this episode is similar to how so many humans can be: feeling superior, ego driven with a personal agenda that has nothing to do with real spirituality. There was no real research and mostly opinion, and when he was talking to someone who objected with his belief they were quickly cut off the episode and no further questions are asked. Usually i write really positive things but this really annoyed me. 👍🏼

The rupture between the Old and the New Testament has continually increased as the Torah or Law of Moses, made way for the growing influence of the Talmud as the source of inspiration of the Hebrew religion. The modern few studies not the Mosaic law but the Talmud; and between the Gospel and the Talmud there is an irreducible antagonism. Book Reference: The Plot Against The Church by Maurice Pinay.

Are you not aware that the Moses origin story is a retelling of the origin story of Sargon of Akkad? Also, scholars have known for at least a century that the pentateuch has several authors. There's been quite a bit of literary analysis done about this. It's more likely that the character of Moses is not historical, but an archetype to help tell the story.

Moses was certainly not illiterate, having been raised by Pharoah’s daughter, he would have been very well educated. However, having left the kingdom and living in the wilderness 40 years prior to his return to free the Hebrews, he likely felt out of practice with the language, thus, the need for Aaron as a spokesman on his behalf.

lol, Moses spending 40 years in the wilderness to travel a route that was supposed to take about 10 days is mind boggling. He was in Babylonian jail for 30 years, where he stole most of their creation stories for the bible. Hammurabi wrote the laws that became the 10 commandments, in his religion that has many gods. so nothing really important came out of the bible really

@@ParableChannel We know it wasn't written by Moses & I'll prove it to you. Genesis 14:14 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servents, born in his own house, 318, & pursued them onto Dan. Dan wasn't named Dan in the supposed time of Moses. Read Judges 18:27-29 And they took the things which Micah had made, & the priest which had & came unto Laish, unto a people that were quiet & secure: & they smite them with the edge of the sword, & burnt the city with fire. And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, & they had no business with any man; & it was in the valley that lieth by Beth-rehob. And they built a city & dwelt therein. And they called the name of the city Dan, after the nsme of Dan their father, who was born to Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first. So Dan became known as Dan after Moses' supposed death & whoever was writing Genesis was writing after the death of Moses.

12:00 no, they are not nearly letter perfect. In fact they differ constantly from the MT, which shows conclusively that the bible has been changed continually over the centuries before it was finally nailed down by the Masoretes. This is the answer to your scepticism at 9:00, in fact, and to get around it, you have to actually lie to your audience and to yourself. Disappointing, but normal.

One also must consider the form that even Exodus was written, it is biographical, not autobiographical. Written in the third person not the first person. It does not say I did this and I did that, it is Moses dud this and he did that. While Moses may have had input into Leviticus and Deuteronomy, they were more likely of consensus in dictating prohibitions such as. Dietary laws something based upon the best medical knowledge of the time. Others to be able to help to conform into existing societies, such as the conduct regarding the holding of slaves and dealings with those that are not of the faith.

@@CPATuttle it is God's words not Mohammad's own words , he only received the revelation, Mohammad never claimed he wrote it or created it ,his job was to continue the same message of all previous messengers, but this time universally the book of Qur'an is addressed from God to all mankind, to believe is something personal , all people are free , but to criticize before you read is ignorance

@@CPATuttle Look, it's a 50/50 chance that there's a God , you may say there is Creator you may say it was all accident or unknown I read and studied many religions and this was my own conclusion It's up to you, read the text it's addressed from God to people all people Not from a man to people After that you may believe you may not, you say it's ridiculous or not, you are not forced to believe anything , it's up to you .. It's a part of history and its events anyway.
