Thanks for the video. As a Hakka I am always amazed at the numerous variations of spoken Hakka. My ancestors were from Baoan, Guangdong. My grandpa then followed his uncle to British North Borneo in 1914. I am of the 黎 family.

Wow. I didn’t know until last week that Sun Yat Sen is Hakka. I am born and raised in New York City. My father is from Hubei which I know little about. My mother is 100% Cantonese Hakka but born and raised in Tsingtao Shantung China. While I never learned Hakka since Mandarin was spoken at home by my parents are also English language fluent , I generally heard it spoken when my mother spoke to her mother. I was raised my mom’s Chinese Hakka ways and values of courage, hard-work ethics, and hospitality and generosity. Both my parents passed away now but I appreciate and am proud of my Hakka roots and am starting to explore my Hakka heritage . I seen pictures of my great grandparents on a home somewhere in or near GuangZhou. My mom’s maiden surname is Liu. Lau if in Cantonese or Hakka.

Thank you for sharing this well researched video! My grandfather’s ancestral home is in a small village near Zhencheng, Guangdong. I was blessed to have visited my grandpa’s village four years ago during Zhongyang Jie in the midst of Covid in Oct 2020. Your video is very information for those of us who were so-called “English-educated” before Malaya got her independence from the British. Blessings to everyone watching this video. 🤲🙏

Thanks for the video. I’m 2. generations Ngai Hakka Chinese born in Vietnam - in Ha Co boarder to China Quangxi. My great grandfather moved to Vietnam (wife and 10 sons) cos a war in China as I been told. Does anyone know why the Ngai Hakka is little different from the original Hakka ? We came to Denmark in 1980 as Vietnamese refugees.

Hakka came from southern Jiangxi. I am a Singaporean and my parents came from northern Jiangxi, my mother tongue is close to the Yang Tze dialects such as Hunan, Hubei & Sezhuan. Although I cannot speak Hakka I can understand most Hakka language. My mother tongue is close to Hakka.

I was born in Brazil. My family is Hakka from Meizhou, Guangdong, where my great-grandparents and grandparents lived in late 19th century and early 20th century as far as I know. Yet, my mom was born in Indonesia and my dad in Taiwan. 😃

Who are the Cantonese people? Same question.
@winglo16974 ай бұрын
Why don't we say, "We are all Chinese". Due to the lack of transportation to mix in the old days, each small area developed its own habits, food, etc. That made us all "different".

Sun Yat Sen isn't Hakka
@glopen12 күн бұрын
Sun Yat-sen is considered by many to be a Hakka. The following are some pieces of evidence to support this view: 1. Ancestral Origin: Sun Yat-sen's ancestral home is in Zijin County, Guangdong. This area is a traditional settlement of the Hakka people. His family's migration history shows a connection to the Hakka region. 2. Family Language and Customs: In his family, there was a habit of using the Hakka dialect. Language is an important factor in determining ethnic group affiliation. The use of the Hakka dialect within his family indicates the possibility of a Hakka background. In addition, some of the family's traditional customs and rituals are similar to those of the Hakka people. 3. Testimonies of Scholars: Many scholars have conducted research and put forward viewpoints that Sun Yat-sen is a Hakka. For example, Professor Pan Ruyao has used definite materials to convincingly argue that "Sun Yat-sen is an authentic Hakka, and his ancestors moved from Zijin County to Zhongshan City".
