Never understood why Leafeon (which for some reason I more or less saw we would get anyway) didn't evolve with a Leaf Stone at least in Gen II. I'm glad we got a Grass Type Eeveelution eventually.

I wonder if the third stage Spearow was split off and used to create Ho-oh, much like the original design of Blaziken was used to create Latios and Latias. Just like Fearow, Ho-oh has a wide wing span and head crest.

This would explain a lot of the Sinnoh Rex, there’s lots of evo’s and pre-evo’s from Gen 1 (Rhyperior, Magmortar, Electivire) also they’re evolution explains why they didn’t evolve in Gen 1 because a lack of the required item or some other factor.

It also explains why outside of the [now] mainstay Regional Variants / Evolutions, and the deprecated Mega Evolutions mechanic, why Gen 4 alone gave us new pre/evos to old pokemon for the longest time. It probably wasn't the original intent [iirc, Gen 4 was delayed, so maybe that was a factor?]

Ok, dark and completely unfounded theory warning: The Doduo line was originally going to be three headed first stage, a two headed second stage, and a one headed final stage, representing how not all fledglings make it and only the strongest survive. This was deemed too dark and so they gave the three heads to the final stage instead, where it feels like an upgrade.

I'm surprised that Vulpix's cut baby Pokemon isn't on this list considering the Pokedex entries mentioning that Vulpix is born with one tail and more grows as it grows older, and Mikon has three tails. This would also support the theory that baby Pokemon and breeding became a thing because of some of the Pokemon we know were cut since Mikon has clearly "grown" old enough to get two extra tails since birth. If they wanted to be accurate and it was created during gen 2's creation, it'd have one. Also Monja and Tangrowth, or at least Tangrowth. They were cut from gen 2 and Tangrowth did eventually become a thing in Gen 4 so I think it'd make sense if at least Tangrowth was planned for Gen 1. And as far as Nidoran goes, they probably tested a "random" evolution thing, scrapped it and made the third forms we know and love today. I say "random" in quotes because I'd imagine that it'd be like Tyrogue where if the attack is higher than the defense it'd evolve into Nidoran male and vice versa, and then changing the method in gen 2 where they evolve based on their gender. I can see why they scrapped the thing now.

Sea horses in Japan are called タツノオトシゴ/tatsunotoshigo which can also mean "tatsu no otoshigo" meaning Dragon's evil spawn/b*stard's child. Sea horses seem to have their name based on dragons instead of horses in Japanese so it makes a lot more sense why it's called the 'Dragon" evolution. Still, the fact it wasn't made dragon is weird and it's very likely Kingdra was planned for gen 1. Gyardoes was also likely going to be dragon/water instead of water/flying. Though maybe since it was easily obtainable, they didn't do that.

To add to this, apparently Jynx was supposed to get an evolution in Gen 4 but it was scrapped because of the controversy. It was pointed out by the devs that Jynx, Magmar and Electabuzz form a kind of humanoid elemental trio, which is why it was supposed to get a 3rd evolution.

I’m willing to bet money that Kingdra was cut for balancing reasons just think about it back in gen 1 where the fairy type didn’t exist yet the water dragon combo only had 1 weakness (dragon) and the only dragon move in the game was dragon rage so you couldn’t have made a super effective damage vs that type combo. That’s also the reason why Gyarados didn’t get the dragon type back then

There has been some interviews and in articles about how in gen 1 they knew how busted dragons and psychics are so they were quite limited. I definitely agree that kingdra could have very well been a gen 1 pokemon because even when gen 2 mons were getting shown off Kingdra,Steelix and Scizor were prominently shown

I think the idea might've been when it evolves into Doduo, one of the heads didn't develop and is hidden by the feathers, and then catches up when it evolves into Dodrio. Also you aren't the only one. The term is "prevos" and it's pretty common in the community.

Crobat wasn’t mentioned because zubat originally had a pre evolution in gen one that was cut, meaning that family already had three stages, so crobat was unlikely at that point.

Odd that you didn't mention Munna and Musharna and the possible Tirtouga/Carracosta/Drednaw on that one cover. Also, you are assuming they only cut base stages and final stages, but not middle stages. For all we know Diglett and Magnemite were supposed to get a middle stage.

The munna and musharna thing has largely been debunked by a sugimori interview that mentioned them not being a thing until they were made in gen 5, and the beta tirtouga you’re referring to came about prior to gen 2, and was made along with the other Pokémon on the cover specifically for that magazine, and then were later made into Pokémon from there

I think all the baby Pokémon and evolutions from Johto are proof enough that Johto wasn’t meant to be it’s own region but rather an “expansion” of Kanto: - if a Pikachu exists in Kanto OF COURSE a Pichu would as well - if Onix exists in Kanto, OF COURSE a Steelix would as well - the “additional cities” are like the new cities in BW2 - they share the same league? Logistically that doesn’t make any sense. We know Koga got promoted to an Elite 4 so it’s just dumb to be “promoted” to an area where you are not from, Gen 2 is the BW2 to Gen1, a literal sequel

so does anyone have any ideas for gym leaders for a Scandinavia based Pokemon region I am working on one right now and I have run out of ideas I only know what the dlc for it would be attackevil group you would travel to kalos to liberate it from the evil group and would get to challenge all the gym leaders and elite four with better teams and would get to make a Pokemon like magearna to defeat the evil group based of the French resistance/ revolution to defeat there powerful mechanical Pokemon and would get to capture the legendary like volcanion

With so many supposed leaks, I'm starting to doubt the validity of all of it. Especially since you would think, we had two remakes already which adds to two chances they could have re-implemented what originally had to be cut.

Problem is that we don't know if something that was cut is already reworked into another Pokemon (Like for example: We know someone mentions a Pink Pokemon with a Floral Pattern in the OG games and Gen 5 introduces such a mon in Munna and Musharna, so its possible they were cut from the gen 1 games, then we also have a cover with a turtle Pokemon on it, which resembles Tirtouga/Carracosta. Interestingly enough, those 2 are introduced in gen 5... maybe we need to look towards gen 5 to decipher cut Pokemon from gen 1 and gen 2 (Like Deerling/Sawsbuck might have been reworked from that Stantler one). We saw beta sprites of the gen 2 water starter which got cut as well and it resembles Samurott, but also Primarina. Both Munna and Musharna are Tapirs, but so is Drowzee. So maybe the Drowzee line was originally supposed to be related to Munna and Musharna.

So I'd have no idea what you are talking about An example that is somewhat canonical is Pikachu's line Pichu (baby) > Pikachu (kid) > Raichu (Teen) > Gorochu (adult). Three stages were always a part of Pokemon, but gen two introduced baby pokemon. Which were below that stage.
