For the ghost-type fossil, I always envisioned it being themed around a more extreme case of the resurrection process being flawed, with an outright failure leading to an undead Pokémon being created instead of the actual fossil

I really like the Normal-Type Fossil Pokémon and the Ghost-Type! I think these two would be perfect choices for version exclusives because the former has the black and white color scheme (hence the word 'gray' in their names) whereas the latter has color in its design (in its case, purple since it fits the Ghost typing)!
@grateoraclelewot632612 сағат бұрын
I like Distortoise's design a lot, but I also think that a Ground-type fossil wouldn't necessarily need to also have the Rock type. Fossils are found underground.
@tanandalynch94414 сағат бұрын
It's because it's canon that the revival process actually adds this type. The reason this was cast out in Gen 8 is because Cara Liss didn't revive the fossils correctly.

You always come up with great ideas for Pokemon, along with the artists who bring them to life! It never really dawned on me how we haven’t gotten any mammalian fossils yet. Hopefully that will change for the future. I think Venodon might be my favorite design, but the Normal and Ghost are really cool as well. Why do I feel like Cambaruse would evolve into something terrifying? 😆 Yungabunga being a surprise fossil we discover is a cool idea.

I like Cambaruse, but the source’s connection to the Fairy typing is a bit tenuous. You know what I thought of when you got to Fairy? Tinkerbell. Not the Disney version, the one from the original story. In it, she dies and is revived. Maybe something could be done with that, or some other fairy that has some connection to death. The reason I’m thinking along these lines is not some obsession with the macabre, but because the idea of a magical creature going extinct is a bit weird on the face of it (though not without precedent: one could do also something with “The Last Unicorn”). A creature that never existed also can’t exactly leave any fossils behind, so you’ve kind of got to think outside the box here.
@TBustah9 сағат бұрын
Dilophosaurus didn’t have the neck frill either, that was taken from an extant Australian lizard. It wouldn’t be the first time this series lifted something from “Jurassic Park” *cough*Old Amber*cough*.

It would be cool if one day they were to do a game where we can see the actual ancient non-fossilized version of these pokémon. Perhaps it could be one of the Legends games. They could also introduce chum pokémon that we haven't seen the fossilized version of and leave room for variance in future games. There are also a lot of prehistoric animals that haven't gotten representation yet like the Spinosaurus.

I don’t think Ghost types and fossil Pokemon are mutually exclusive, simply because not all Ghost types are explicitly spirits of the dead. Even with their strong association with Pokemon Tower, the Gastly line are made of poisonous gas, not ectoplasm. Bannette is a tsukumogami, which were never living things to begin with. Oricorio definitely isn’t dead, I’m not even sure why it’s a Ghost type to begin with. In fact, there are forty-ish Ghost evolutionary lines, and you probably count the number of them that are explicitly dead on one hand (definitely no more than two).

We still haven't had f****** fossils in a lot of the regions so I feel like we need to make amends with the missing types we need to get that done and done and get all the other ones we need to get eeveelutions for all the types we don't have maybe we get a regional Eevee that's the same type of the normal one but maybe it's a little fluffier or a little less fluffy and it becomes all the types that the current one cannot and maybe we get Moore regional forms for meow so we get all the other types covered I mean we've got so many regions that don't have a regional Meowth we need to deal with that

The designs are pretty cool imo. But do the fossil pokemon creations really need to always be part rock typed? Just because the Kanto-Kalos fossils have the rock typing added to them? Don’t get me wrong it does make sense in a way but not always necessary. The Galar fossils didn’t have the rock typing & Dracovish is top tier choice in competitive Pokemon matches.

I absolutely love these what if pokemon type/ pokemon concept you and plenty of poketubers do. Another commenter posted doing one of mythical Pokemon and agree I would definitely like to see that sooner than later. Honestly I absolutely hate the stereotype of fossil pokemon having to have the rock type attached to it unless this is explained in-game lore and I simply have yet to talk to the NPC that explains why this happens during the restoration process. I would appreciate it if some can say what game the NPC is in that explains this or if please link to poketubers you know who might have their own opinions as to why the Rock type is practically always added.. If you're reviving a creature even from rock the creature itself isn't necessarily that way biologically but hey this is a fantasy-like game series so do with it what they may.

At least 1 of 2 described is how I personally would do business if I were to commission an artist for their work.
