Yes indeed curtain up! So much passion, so much laughter, so much disciplined talent put in motion! Puccini's the best, from him we can expect no less! When I think of opera the first name that comes to my mind is Puccini! All of his operas are masterpieces that will live on through generations to come! All the singers/actors were wonderful, customs so professionally crafted, and of course the marching band was a definite crowd pleaser!

Love Puccini. My father used to say that Verdi wrote for the voice, and Puccini, for the music, the emotion? , or was it the other way around? I think the arias give that one away.....Love Puccini......

If it's the case I wouldn't be surprised, especially since he also came at least a couple of times in Lucca iirc (in occasion of the humongous comic Con there) 😉

There are a few singers shown here who have instances of erroneous intonation. That being said, the passion displayed by the conductor and all the performers is greatly admirable. The Rodolfo, Michael Alfonsi, is particularly striking in appearance (indeed looking like a young Puccini), and the closing act is emotionally devastating, as always.

Singing out of tune happens way too often these days. I have attended operas in Europe and the US since 1968. There is definitely a decline in quality.

Viva Puccini, Viva Colombini, but what of Giulia Manfredi, cousin of Doria? She operated the saloon bar across from the Puccini residence in Torre Del Largo and was the inspiration for Minnie, the lead character of La Fanciulla Del West. Was the reason Puccini could not come to a satisfactory conclusion in the opera Turandot because of his hidden affair with Giulia that went on for more than a decade after Doria's death and which produced a son a year before his own death? As the suffering character Liu was a metaphor for the tragic death of Doria, was the icy coldness of Princess Turandot's character an expression of the impossibly frustrated situation Giacomo had found himself in that involved conflicted and never to be resolved relationships of love and family?
