Do you find it difficult to deal with the different types of farmers out there now? You have the rescue/hobby farmers & traditional farmers that butcher their animals within certain age groups depending upon the species.

I wouldn’t call it difficult. I understand there perspective and can appreciate it. I also know that a lot of them I started in there shoes and shared some of their same opinions and they will learn the same as I did. There perspective will evolve regardless. I also understand using certain verbiage makes money and unfortunately that is all that is there for and unfortunately the public will never know. The number of true rescues I have met can’t even fill up one hand. The best rescue I ever knew wasn’t even a rescue. And I have been in the animal industry selling to the public since I was 10 yrs old.

I started out thinking I would never eat my own animals. And after seeing with my own eyes how animals are commercial farmed it changed my perspective. We eat my favorite wild caught game and farm raised by us or our community. Also store bought meats looks and smells weird. Ground store bought meat when you start browning it. It smells like a lump jaw of a cow to me. So least to say it turns my stomach. Where as the farmer raised ground beef doesn’t smell like that. Hope this all makes sense lol

@RandomOkieFarms I wonder because my husband works for USDA as an inspector and some of the meat packing plants are nowhere near where he would want us to eat from. The larger plants are reducing their numbers of quality control on top of that.

Wish I could have been there would have bought the Buff Orpingtons. I like everything you video. You ladies seem to cover it all. Again so unfortunate that some folks take advantage of others. What if those eggs were bought for a child just thinking about getting into raising quail or any poultry and this happened to them. It may have changed their mind completely

I enjoy both seeing the available animals then heading over to the auction part to see how much they sale for. Your presentation of the available critters is spot on. I always want to see what you two are up to. The egg collection was definitely done in a careless way. That poor little quail!! You two do such a wonderful job incubating all the different egg types. I'm sorry they ripped you off Marie.

Thanks for sharing this auction. I find it so fascinating to see all the animals and how the eggs are at the auction. The goats are so cute! I would want to bring them all home! I paid $6.50 for lavender Orpington chicks in Northern CA. I couldn’t hear or understand what the auctioneer said was the average price of chicks at the auction.

Hello Marie and FeFe. I do love checking out what is available at auctions! So I was excited to see all the eggs you brought home for hatching and was excited to see the button egg quials hatch. I am hoping there are still some good eggs that will hatch, since there is a lot number on the container are you able to go back and find out who brought the eggs to auction to begin with? Someone should have to answer for what they have done.🤗🤗💞💞💙💙

I love chickens. The saddest thing I saw was at Eddy's Farm. They have a real bad predator problem They had the most beautiful yellow buff Orphatans they got at a auction. They move all their chickens to the new dog pens except the Yellow Buffs. The buffs were beautiful. For some reason they let the male and female yellow buffs run free. The female buff had such a cute fluffy butt and she hung around the other birds outside of their cages. She found a half cage in the back of the cages and made herself a nest She was laying eggs every day. Stephanie went in the back to show her after a predator bite her head off and she still was on her nest and a egg was under her. For some reason it made me very upset that day. I see why chickens and other animals need to be in protected cages to survive.They lost all their sulkies that way. One by one they disappeared.I like the way you keep your birds well protected and I think you are beautiful especially when you wear a dress. You are beautiful in your mannerism too.

I don't know how well received this comment will be, but many times kids are left the responsibility of collecting eggs. If they missed a nest and collected them without telling anyone or even knowing the difference that could be an explanation of why these eggs were partially incubated. I've never had button quail, but I've had Bob White, California Quail, and Chukar quail/partridges (some call Chukar quail and some call them partridges). They don't nest in boxes. They nest on the ground in random places and don't necessarily use the same spot twice. Their nests are very easy to miss. It's possible that someone collected out of a nest that was being set without realizing what the repercussions would be. PLEASE NOTE: I'm not blaming or casting aspersions on kids. LOL I just know my kids missed eggs so that could be a possibility.

I am so sorry about that little quail that didn't get a fair chance at life. Sorry too that you got ripped off Marie and your heart hurt for these little lives. The only thing I truly know about quail is how to hunt them, clean, and cook them. Wild quail was a huge part of my growing up and the best food I can remember eating. Those bought at the grocery store are down right nasty! Probably cage raised on grain or something...just nothing at all like quail my daddy and ex-husband used to get when they hunted. I'm not sure why people raise quail on farms...they are not good to eat unless they are 100% free range. They are a beautiful bird with a beautiful song I miss hearing. They were once plentiful in the NE Arkansas area I grew up in. A popular game bird. At least through farming the quail has not become extinct d/t over development of the country. I could so go on a rant about that...but won't. I'm older and glad of it. Glad I grew up in an era when things were still beautiful and not over run with generic suburbs, franchise stores, and restaurants, etc... I don't buy into the idea of modernization.

I am still confused as to why the one that hatched did not make it or the others might not hatch. What did the seller actually give you for this to go wrong? Was it because you thought they were younger and straight from the momma's touche, that they were able to sit out a couple days before they needed to be incubated? Thank you Marie. So frustrating that people can do this.
@Camiken65
@Camiken65 Ай бұрын
Fertile eggs can sit for quite a long time (a week) before they are incubated. After a week-ish the likelihood of them hatching diminishes. (I've had eggs out as long as 3 full weeks and most still hatched) The problem comes in when they are partially incubated (whether naturally or in an incubator) and then the process is stopped. The temperature differences interrupt chick development. The chick that died had incubation interrupted so development was stopped and restarted. Typically, the chick would die in the egg. That's why she said it "should not have hatched". We know it was partially incubated because it takes much longer than 6 days for a check to develop and hatch. When buying fertile eggs, it is expected that they were removed before the hen set the nest. Hens lay approximately an egg a day normally and don't set them until there are at least several. So, gathering every day would prevent natural incubation from starting. It's obvious from the chick hatching in 6 days that at least that egg was left under the hen for at least a week. If the other eggs were not collected before the hen set then it is not likely they will hatch. Sorry this is so long and I'm not Marie, but I hope it answers at least part of your questions. :)
