7:46 so let's say you started playing violin at a young age, so you are loading that left side by constantly holding down on the violin because you hold it with your neck and clavicle/shoulder not your arm, which needs to be free to move around the fingerboard. Is that going to possibly cause hypertrophy of some of the uncovertebral joints on the left side?

I'm currently dealing with numbness and tingling of my left hand, having played the viola for 40+ years.

4:30 the unconate joints will be fully formed by around 33 years (with loading). That's the craziest anatomical thing I've ever heard. Also never heard of the hyoid bone, which is involved in swallowing and sleep apnea

I am still trying to figure out everything that was going on, but as a 50-year-old man with severe uncovertebral hypertrophy at c4-c7, I had significantly severe pain from nerve root compression and crepitus for almost a decade. I don't understand why you would even make such a characterization without significant clinical evidence. It still took doctors from 2015 to 2022 while I was in SEVERE pain to finally get treatment. I can't help but suspect that mischaracterizations such as "doesn't cause severe pain" were responsible for my under-treatment.

join the club, a lot of my imaging showed mild to moderate stenosis and they didn't think that it was a problem... 😢 but insurance makes them jump through so many hoops as well. and I had even convinced myself that I was just lazy but then I realized I couldn't brush my teeth without stopping to rest after 10 seconds😮 how did I get to that point without realizing what was going on? also had terrible migraines all my life and now they have turned chronic. Some of my neck issues have been fixed with facet joint ablation and fusion from C5 - 7 as well as C4 foraminotomy . But it's still a constant battle on the left side. and one of the pain doctors that I saw for some nerve root steroid injections he's pretty sure some of my problems are caused by a hypertrophic C3 uncinate process

@@paulacoyle5685 Mine said severe in several places and it was still all I could do to get minimum pain management. That said, I know what you mean. I had boiled frog syndrome for quite some time as well. "Rub a little dirt on it, I'm OK" is what I would tell myself. Until it was clear I wasn't OK. I have since had two fusion surgeries. The second one was necessary because of the delay in treatment. I just had the posterior fusion a month ago. It was extremely painful, but I'm already getting a glimpse of what life was like before things got so bad. Hopefully I feel this good after I taper off the rest of my surgery meds, but I have more hope than I've had in years. Sorry for your pain and best of luck. Hope you find your answer.

Uncinate is pronounced with a soft C, "un-seh-nate." Plural of vertebra is vertebrae, pronounced "vert-eh-bree."
