That's kinda the point--that's less than 1/3 of the league's 2 guards in any given year during that era. How many starting 2 guards in the league today would you consider average athletically? Moreover, that's just 2 guards. The league overall, at all 5 positions, definitely has more athleticism than it did 30 years ago. This shouldn't even be considered a knock on 90's athleticism because it's 30 years later. One would hope it's a bigger, stronger, faster league.

numbers don't lie: if the newer players are so much better, why haven't they easily taken over all the top spots in the record books? The old school players still own everything but the 3pt categories and Kerr is still #1 in that %...yes, players today may be more athletic overall due to medical/exercise/nutrition advancements, but dont forget people always say Bird wasnt athletic and he beat so many players that were considered way more athletic (like today's Luka? Jokic?).... and dont forget the medical advancements, training knowledge, nutrition, and exercise advancements the current players have over the old heads...imagine Bird with 2010+ back treatment advancements instead of mid-80's medical skill...those old players pretty much had some free weights (if they even did that) and drank beer, yet still lead in almost all the top categories..not many $100million bodies back then yet they still own all the records.. But let's look at the all-time leader boards... REGULAR SEASON: if the players now are so much better, why do the 80/90s players still lead in almost everything except new gameplay aspects like 3ptr stats (and Kerr even leads 3pt% at 45.4 #1 over Curry #7 at 43.2%)? Stockton, Malone, Garnett, Wilt, Hakeem, Kareem are all on the top spots on the all-time leaderboards...Lebron and Curry are the only other players to be up there..and in turnovers, Lebron and Westbrook are 1 and 2....so if today's players are so much better, why havent they wiped the 80/90s players right off the board by a wide margin? out of 82 players in 19 top 10 categories, only 19 players are "new school" PLAYOFFS: same here...Magic, Shaq, Duncan, Russell, Kareem...and Lebron and Curry...where are all the other newer "better" players? same 19 categories...out of 77 players, only 9 are "new school" and almost all in the 3pt categories... Same for per game stats...this is where the telling stats are...per game tell way more than cumulative totals.. REGULAR SEASON: this is where you see Jordan, Magic, Malone, Mikan, Parish, Wilt...then Kerr and Curry in the 3pt categories...however, the turnovers category has several newer players 1)trae young 2) westbrook 3) luka doncic.....Magic at #4 is the highest old school player... Lebron is in a couple of categories around the #6 spot PLAYOFFS: we see MJ, Magic, Moses Malone, Russell, Hakeem, Iverson...again Curry and Luka make an appearance in the 3pt categories...not many new players and Lebron is only #1 in games played...#6 in pts behind #1 MJ.....field goals made #10 behind MJ #1..so even with Lebron making the finals/playoffs so many times, he didnt produce very much most of those times The newer players lead in 3pt categories and turnovers.....the "plumbers" lead in almost everything else...which is exactly what "old heads" keep saying...today's NBA is all about easy points and as many 3 pointers as possible....not much defense and everyone is focused on themselves, their own brand, contract $, and stat totals instead of per game production and actual WINNING...Parish said it best "back then we played for the name on the front of the jersey, now they play for the name on the back"

@V12BenzAMG10 ай бұрын
@crystalizedExposed nah, it's because the game is played differently now..everyone sits at the 3pt line and waits for a kick out to shoot...not many drives anymore.. and when they do, people just get out of the way and let them finish (as they take 6+ steps with no dribble 🙄)....back then the inside game was the only game and there were multiple bigs waiting on you at the rim..3pt shots weren't considered a go-to shot... this is why the newer players mostly only show up in the 3pt stats

It's interesting. When people who don't like Jordan try to discredit him, they act like everyone who likes Jordan thinks he's perfect and that him NOT being perfect proves he's not the GOAT (in their feeble minds). Jordan was far from perfect, but a major difference between him and Lebronze is that Jordan would see the weakness and then work like crazy to minimize it while Lebronze just cries and changes teams.
@richgreene503810 ай бұрын
seriously? MJ didn't win anything until all the legends that kicked his ass year after year retired from old age, disease, or injury. he cried so much the league created the flagrant foul. he cried so much he fake retired twice when he didn't get his way with the Chicago bulls. limited free agency rules and weak competition across the league from being in an expansion era helped jordan immensely. let's also not give any credit to the Chicago front office that hand picked the talent and coaches to surround MJ with. the league was ran completely differently back then and there's a reason why the same handful of teams won every year from the early 80s until the early 2000s.

@richgreene5038 OK, let's see here. While it's true that Jordan got roughed up, he was getting beaten by real legends with great teams while he had zero other stars with him. Lebronze got beat BY JASON TERRY while playing with two other top 5 players in the league. The flagrant foul rule wad not because of Jordan, it was because of the Pistons and their very, overly physical style of play. It wasn't just Jordan getting physically abused. Adam Silver gave Lebronze an extra damn step so he could travel more, so how is Stern cracking down on physicality more egregious? As for your comment about free agency and hand picking, it's evident you know NOTHING about basketball. There is no other player in history who has had more hand-picked teams than Lebronze. Pray tell, aside from Pippen who exactly did the Bulls "hand pick" for MJ that made any sort of impact? PJ Brown? Bill Cartwright? BJ Armstrong? Horace Grant? MJ won six titles with only one other all-star on his team. Lebronze has failed to win with at LEAST two others, and he's likely going to do it again. Expansion era, eh? So you mean the era when there were less teams than there are now? That should mean your boy would be swimming in rings, right? Don't come in here with those weak ass points, man.

@@richgreene5038 you're right. As a guy who grew up in the same town MJ did I can give you a more personal experience of how he talked, whined, and treated people. MJ isn't the GOAT. They overlooked MJ just like LeBron. Neither are the GOAT because of how they acted on and off the court. The problem is you have 2 different fan bases that are brainwashed into believing that theirs were greatest ever. And yet men like Larry Bird, who literally got the absolutely physically destroyed week and week that his body literally gave out while shoveling some snow. People forget just how physical of a sport was back then. Bird is the GOAT and trashed MJ. He literally did that with a literal broken back! If the players in the past were allowed to take that extra step like today(gather)? The amount of space you able to create for yourself to shoot is significantly increased. The NBA is on the verge of seeing the young players today playing healthier and longer cause of the less physically demanding game. It's not far fetched as people think that LeBrrons scoring record stays intact. I think he even knows that. That's why he and his team padding his stats.

Transceding eras are best summed up by Jerry West describing if Wilt Chamberlain could play decades later. "It would be, quite frankly, embarrassing for them (1990s centers)." The game changes but greatness finds a way.

Don't forget an important information when talking about the Wizards MJ, he was playing on ONE knee and his index finger of his DOMINANT hand was practically paralyzed due to the cigar cutter accident/incident after the 98 championship which was a huge problem for his dribbling and palming the ball (and probly his shooting too).

Im gonna finish the video. But im at 2:45 this is the point These “fans” dont get, i held my breath at every Hornecek and Stockton 3s til the mthfkn clock read 0:00 ya hear me! During the FINALS every single shot, couple of em went in and out too, couldve changed history maybe. But i shouldnt have to even put in words just WATCH the games completely through the series and youll see that no one was trash. And even if they were, there comes a time to get that reb, get that block, screen a lil harder, hit a shot etc and if you on the court execute and get the victory as a unit. This was ALWAYS the point of a team sport.

I agree with what Vince said at the end about AI and Kobe. I think their FG% would be much higher if they played in the late 10’s early 20’s. If you look at Kobe he was always very effective if you look at his EFG% being just under 50% (like Mike) for his career. That’s very impressive for a high volume guy.
