I'm a butcher, with the mesh glove most times you wouldn't hurt yourself because its usually protocol to have really sharp knives so you shouldn't need to apply much pressure with the blade and you would usually have a couple of efficient and safe slicing tips so you wouldn't chop your finger off

Yeah cut gloves tend to be a sign of either some store policy (they usually hire minors) or a kitchen that doesn't like to have their knives sharpened, and if I saw a place that used cut gloves without putting a glove on top of them I would just walk out. No body cleans those, it's nasty.

Chain mail is built to protect you from slashes, it was used around the neck, waist and chest to protect vital organs with cotton padding to prevent stabs. It would still hurt.

Remember, cut resistant gloves are for environments with cutting and don’t fully protect, they aren’t a substitute for safe usage of machines but can help when something goes wrong. Also, don’t cheap out on PPE, it can save lives when things go wrong

This keeps your finger tips out from under the knife and the flat face of the blade will be the only thing touching your knuckles sometimes.

Just wear riveted mail. The only weakness of it are blunt things, so unless you are planning on using a hammer you are safe. Also, it's pretty much stab proof but it's designed to be mainly good against cuts.

As a butcher we are told to use these as apprentices but most butchers will tell you to reframe from using them as they teach you bad habits and build confidence. When they take the glove off they are more than likely going to cut themselves

Idc when I worked as an Apprentice at the Whole Foods meat department, I still wore one every day.. forget that.. My butchers were literally missing fingers from the B Saw so I was so nervous about cutting myself period😂

@@latenightcake5881 not really though, if butchers wore gloves all the time then they wouldn’t have to be concerned about cutting themselves as much (at least minor cuts). Reading some of the other comments one of the main reasons I can see is that the gloves are not super hygienic so that’s why they don’t wear them. 😊

We would wear the mesh gloves with another glove to lessen the chance of injury. And I had a apron that was mesh also. I was a knifehand and meat packer. Hard hard job.
