The drip bicycle was the best! Everything but the cut up fabric thing. Would have used one piece of a quality fabric on dowels myself. And more curtains if possible. Dark blue kitchen wall SUCH an improvement! Maybe what I loved most of all was the vivid blue hat!

Exactly where I'd have put my couch--did that in my last home, creating two hallways. Great rework. For anyone for whom a homemade tapestry would be too much of a challenge... Another way to make expensive gorgeous wall art for large expanses or to make a statement in a small space (defining an area) like wall paper, with a bit less effort, is to go to a fabric store that sells batik/hand dyed fabrics, and stretch it over frames made out of 1" x 2" (wood strips cut to size--the hardware store will usually cut it to size for you) squares, rectangles, using L brackets to secure one or more frame and then staple fabric. (Or even use old clothes.) You can hang with picture wire or with nails at either corner of the frame. You can make various collections. These can also be great for rooms that need to have sound reduction.

I don't know about other areas, but in Milwaukee where I live you can shop at the Re Store (Habitat for Humanity) and get incredible deals, St. Vincent de Paul has great bargains, and the Purple Heart ditto. Goodwill has gotten a bit too "commercial" these days but you can still find some items there at a good price - it doesn't hurt to look. Mainly, you have to know your stores by shopping there/scoping them out a lot and knowing when they're putting out new floor stock. Not all stores do it daily. Also, if you shop in thrift stores that are located closer to the burbs rather than closer to the city core, you'll get higher prices - comes with the territory.
