When the camera is in use, the pixels are turned off. That bad quality is because the physical pixels are still in front of the camera. Imagine taking a photo through a very fine mesh, that is what is going on here.

Yeah unless the companies develop some really good algorithm for clearing out the photos ot will look like that and video will be still bad. The best way to have under display camera is in phone like fold which can use back camera for selfies and video while using front camera for video calls and face unlock
