Under Frame Lighting the Inexpensive Way

Nothing’s cheaper than what you already own, so here’s how I decided to repurpose used trailer tail lights for a custom touch in my truck.
I’ll show you how I planned out my undercarriage lighting, installed stainless brackets, wiring, and how the final results look.
The only costs involved for me were the brackets & a roll of sealed wire! And, of course, my time. I soldered every connection in the hopes that this project will be trouble-free for years; not just months… time will tell.
The wire I used is available at NAPA Auto Parts.
The stainless steel brackets I used are made by Grand General and are available on Amazon.
Are there cheaper ways to do this? Maybe. Are there faster & easier installations? Sure. But this is how I chose to do mine, hopefully this helps you decide how to tackle your next project!

Man! I can't thank you enough! That is so different and unique. I never would have thought of that! I was thinking of just buying lights that come with the chrome strip like everybody else. But with this, you can be more individualized, do it any way you like, with watermelon light under the cab or whatever. Lights up the truck or trailer out on a dark night where people can see you, brighter and safer than those same old cab lights. Like a whole new world. Thank you.

Very nice,many years ago when I was a teen I did some under my pick up I used a mix of red and amber and wire them to separate signal flashers so it looked like flames under my truck but the police made me remove them :( Looked pretty cool at night though

The trailer absolutely needs some. I’d be finding a bunch of amber 4” lights keep the bumper scheme going to the rear of trailer and then 4 4” reds at the very back 💪🏼. At least that’s my plan on my ride currently. Sweet kwhopper brother !!!

Looks great, do you have any problems with the DOT where you go? Didn't know if there any certain color to stay away from. I bought a bunch of 3/4 inch lights from ebay bought too many for my interior. Blue and green ones

Any DOT issues? I heard you can’t have green, blue, and red in some states. I just installed some underglow to my flatbed bed. The color I decided to go with was amber. I used some watermelon lights

Dang man that looks awesome. So weird how this works because if you put under glow lighting or rock lights on a pick up it reflects homosexuality in every state I’ve been in lol but for whatever reason on a semi It looks awesome I don’t feel any hatred in my heart at all. Weirdest thing.

It's not inexpensive considering the price of the brackets and the taillights. Also, using taillights you're limited to red, clear or yellow. The led kits are much cheaper and your color choices are many and can be changed with the flick of a switch.
