Under His Wings | Songs and Everlasting Joy

What a safe place to be - under the wings of Jesus! He is happy to have us there, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. I'm sure you've all heard the stories of mother hens gathering their chicks during a bush fire or other fire disaster. It has happened that the chicks survived under their mother's wings, even while the mother herself was burnt to death. Doesn't this paint the same picture as Jesus, who, in order to save us from death from sin, put us under His wings and bore the brunt of the sin Himself, laying down His life that we may live?
What a picture of love and self-sacrifice! What a story of redemption! Praise God that this story can be ours today!

Beautiful song! You know, ever since I first heard & read the Scriptures (Luke 13, & Matthew 23) as a little girl (& THAT was a LONG time ago!), until just this year, I'd always thought that the term "hen" always meant a "CHICKEN"! But now, I'm realizing that it means ALL female birds -- and I like that so much more! Psalm 91, Luke 13, Matthew 23, & many others, plus my own experiences with the Lord (as well as with rescued birds!) have tied this song nearer & dearer to my heart, over the years!

Oh, that is amazing. Nice catch. I looked it up on Merriam Webster, just for fun, which gave the description below. Old Merriam Webster were by the way a fellow Christian and took many of his definitions of English words proved by biblical context, which actually makes huge sense, if you think about it: English is a modern hybrid language of many languages really, as Danish (my native tongue), French, German, Latin and Celtic languages and many more, which is also, why you have such an overflow of vocabulary, by the way. English as a spoken language may not be more than a millennia old an the written language were settled much by the first ever Bibles translated into this language of the commoners, not least by the King James Version. I used to follow Robert Breaker, online preacher, before he became weird and almost Hebrew Rooter bend, but he claims, that you actually could preach the gospel from quotes of the old Merriam Webster 1828, which is today online on a dedicated website, if you are interested. The Bible, of course, always should be the authority, not other texts! 1 a : a female chicken especially over a year old broadly : a female bird b : the female of various mostly aquatic animals (such as lobsters or fish) 2 : woman especially : a fussy middle-aged woman The latter cracked me up, by the way!
