What a Friend We Have in Jesus | Songs and Everlasting Joy

Joseph M. Scriven wrote the words for this hymn in 1855 (as a poem and never intended to be a hymn) from a life of disappointment and grief. He was unable to fulfil his career due to health issues, lost not one, but two of his brides-to-be just before the wedding to accident and illness. He also suffered financial loss and depression. Yet, through it all, he had a friend in Jesus.
We, too, can have that assurance. Jesus is our friend, no matter what life throws at us. Now matter the grief, disappointments or sorrows. What a friend we have in Jesus.

What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear,
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry

Thank you for up loading this hymn I think I forgot that Jesus is ones best friend in this life the only one who knows and loves you as you are but won't leave you that way. He knows all about us nothing is hidden or a surprise to Him . How grateful I am that He is my friend.

I’m sorry you are disappointed but let me explain the slower tempo. I love singing hymns slowly and with feeling - with time to hear and meditate on the words. Before I started this channel, I was looking for music like this with a slow, contemplative tempo but all I could find were fast ones that seemed to skip over the meaning altogether. God placed on my heart a burden to record such music and I have tried to do that to my best ability. So on this channel, the slower, more contemplative tempo will almost always be used. I hope you can find ones with them tempo you like - as I did easily years ago. God bless!

@@SongsandEverlastingJoy Thank you for explaining. I appreciate what you are trying to say. I had two reasons for making the comment I did- both were personal. Firstly, I am somewhat deaf. Good clean Christian music (without the secularisation) is quite difficult to find where I can follow the words clearly. Your voice is clear enough where I can follow the words. However, like many, I am also going through sorrow. I look for something to uplift my spirit. When I listen to your music, one after another, I start to dwell on my sadness... the meditative tempo is more minor key. I need courage and rousing as well as meditation on God's goodness! I need to praise as well as to contemplate. I hope you do not find my words discouraging. If you can find it in your heart and have the time, you may find blessing in singing the songs as originally intended also. That is all. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.
