When the original band got back together for a week of special shows at the Rollin' Stone here in Winnipeg in the early '90s, I recall Kenny Shields in a radio interview, when saying they would only play songs from the first album, also say, "Paul Dean was still with us when we recorded Under My Thumb, so we'll probably do that." Under My Thumb was originally a special single released after the first album, and was added to later pressings of the second album. That's John Hannah in this video. So this was one of those cases where a musician is play-syncing to another musician's recorded work.
@djjamesfalk4 жыл бұрын
@@cary3428 I should have edited this post years ago. That was supposed to say I'd always though Paul Dean was playing this rather than John Hannah. You'd think growing up in the era & then going on to spend the two decades working with each band dozens of times would have prevented such a misquote. With all that said, another poster quoted a Shields radio interview where the solo is credited to Paul Dean with John Hannah play play syncing, as was likely the entire band in this promo video.

Interesting note about this, and not sure it has been mentioned: As you can see, that is Matt Frenette on drums. He was already in his new band Loverboy, shopping for a record deal when this song reached #20 in Canada in February of 1980. So while his new band was looking for a record deal, he got to watch his old band sail up the charts
