@southboundsuarez9832
@southboundsuarez9832 9 күн бұрын
@beanmang3791 Yeah well so much more that happens often I'd thst these older Lester's ate finding their way to opportunistic luithiers that use them as a base to fabricate a forgery of a 59. Some of the gold tops actually even have some fairly nice patterned maple flame on them, which is perfect fodder to refin and create some convincing '59 burst from the bones of manybof these earlier guitars. It's a shame that this lessens the amount of actual original debut guitars but likewise dilutes the 59 guitars out there. There is a story or rumour that purports that somewhere nobody had attempted to make a legit registry of certified 59 bursts and as far as anyone could ascertain from the Gibson order sheets and records that thru the end of 58 and to the end of 1960 a limited number of bursts were produced,,, let's just say for example it has been estimated at 1200 (just for example) however this online registry has had over 4000 bursts that have been registered as out there surviving and for all practical purposes fairly well initially identified. Somewhere since that time frame a whole lot more bursts started circulating!

@@saltpeter500To be fair to Joe,he takes a load of guitars from his collection on tour with him.Seen him live twice,and his guitar tech spends almost as much time on the stage as he does! Changes his instrument many times during a two hour straight session. Oh,and just for the record,at the end of the gig,he has sweated right through the back of his shirt AND his suit, so he definitely works hard on that stage! Can’t blame the heat from the spotlight anymore,as they are all cool LED lights today.

I had the pleasure of playing a 52 original LesPaul gold top. A man drove past our house and noticed a cardboard cutout guitar in my son's window. He stopped and asked my wife if anyone in the house plays. She told him that I do, and he invited her to listen to a cassette tape he had of he and his wife performing together, her on organ, him on that gold top. He asked if he could stop by to play some guitar with me! He said he was afraid to take the LesPaul out of the house, and surprised me when he came over, and from his trunk he pulls out nothing but... the case holding that Les Paul!! We went inside and he played one of my guitars and allowed me to play his gem! He was the original owner too! The guy was in his 80's and we had a great time. Sadly I never got to play with him or his Les Paul again after. I've got photos of me playing it still!

I was playing it one day, with my 1993 Fender American ‘52 Reissue Tele, and grabbed the chain on a ceiling fan to get some air moving. Shazam!!! Shocked the ever loving shit out of me! Matthew, you should set up some sort of crowd funding thing. I’m sure most of your subscribers would love for you to be the custodian of that fine instrument, (and amp).

Saw a 50's Fender Champ on Reverb for like $2,400 yesterday. Not too insane.

These were unsellable for 10k forever, until joe glaser came out with the music city bridge. I predicted in 2012 with the advent of that bridge the 52/3 goldtops would go way up in value. Now they are almost 40k.

For not being set up properly, and having to deal with that tailpiece, you sure made it sound good Matthew..

Right before the pandemic, I was looking at a '52 goldtop in. A shop that had the abr1 installed. It was kinda my perfect guitar. They were only asking 10k Canadian. I realize that's a lot of money, and it was a conversion, but it was still amazing
