He was a great author, but he wasn’t a contemporary author, he was born in 1944, to be contemporary to the events he depicted he’d have to have been born in like 1800 or around that time He was a historical fiction writer, still, fantastic novels

I've read most of his stuff, but somehow not Sharpe. I know he wrote some of Bean's portrayal into the books after the first movie, like Fleming with Connery. Almost scared to read them. If I do, it'll be the ones they haven't filmed

From Sharpes Honour, I highly recommend people to read it, the Marques doesn't even get any lines in this episode lol. But the fight is fantastically written and the book is very much similar to Sharpes Prey, he's in a terrible state and makes terrible decisions, but comes out of it all because of his friends. D'Alembord is a great character in the books. Inquistor Hatcha is played perfectly in the episode I think, the same kind of power hungry slime he is in the Book, where he hopes to essentially be a Rasputin-esque character controlling the Spanish throne under a restored Ferdinand. In the Book, the Marques really does get the better of Sharpe, effortlessly forcing him into a position where the sun is in his eyes (they're fighting in an old graveyard), but Sharpe does hulk out, get very offensive with his heavy Calvary sword and get the best of the Marques, nearly dealing a killing blow.

This was such a good series. Based on a series of great books. What has disappointed me was the battle scenes were unrealistic. But I assume that they were working on a limited budget and there was not much in the way of CGI back then,
@Jamie_E_PritchardАй бұрын
I was just saying similar on another of these videos. The scale of the battles is the only thing that lets the show down really.

@FrankWilkinson-ig6co the BOOK (I know, entirely different universe) he took the sword away from a French officer, Sharpe is described repeatedly as swinging a blunt edged butcher knife surprising people at his ability to even swing the thing. P.S. Sharpe is much like James Bond, the books are great movies are great, BUT THEY ARE NOT THE SAME.
