Meet Lawrence Brown. I met him while I was taking photos under a bridge on Jasper Ave, near 82 St. Lawrence asked me if I was with National Geographic (not quite), then offered to show me his tent. I made this because I wanted to not only raise awareness about homelessness in Edmonton, but put a face to it. Nothing that hasn't been done before, but this is my own contribution.

The comments are very depressing blaming this man. I hope he gets help and a warm place.

I saw cops arresting an old homeless man with a neck brace on for drinking beer on a park bench near the edmonton river valley. I know public drinking not in a pub or bar is illegal but it seemed like a waste, to put handcuffs on a quiet old man with a neck brace.

Come to think of it. I was living up in Clairview up on Manning Drive at the same time you took this video. Check out 'Hope for the homeless.' On KZbin....shortly after I benefited from the Rapid Exit Program offered by the Hope Mission. You should tell others about this program offered through Homeward Trust in Edmonton. They put me in a beautiful place of my own that year in the spring.

In view of some of the comments previously on here....I can say that for an absolute homeless person (that's one who doesn't use resources available like shelters, soup kitchens, drop in centers, Government assistance programs, etc. ) it is not quite that simple to just pick it up and get off of the lifestyle. You see it is something inside the individual who suffers some kind of need, but doesn't feel any desire to persue it. This person is actually content within him/herself for the things out of the world presented. This internal satisfaction is almost always accompanied with an addiction (drugs and alcohol) So that the individual doesn't have to think about the living situation he/she is living in. I know this because I've been out there with them and have seen that in everyone I've met on the street. That they have had some kind of trauma in their lives, some kind of deep hurt that they are protecting within themselves. A key to a dark closet that NO ONE will take.

I remember finding everything I needed out there in the garbage, my tent, my clothes my blankets my food and my empties! Survival to the max! Summertime you defeat the mosquitoes and winter, the cold.

Anyone who can survive a single night homeless during an Edmonton winter is a tough individual. You're a survivor, Justin.

Yeah I know....it was rough, but I managed it....I can relate to this guy in this video, in fact I think I've seen him around in Edmonton at the community centers that serve food to the public. Hope Mission, Boyle Street, Mustard Seed, and Living for Jesus.

I hope this guy is doing well. I hope he tries to get a home someday I know it mustn’t be easy and not simple to just get out of this situation, but I hope and pray he can find a way out and live more comfortably. I don’t blame him for leaving hobema I’ve heard it’s not a nice place.

If its windy out and its below 20 and snowing under the bridge is the best place to spend a couple days ...you should have one sleeping bag on you in the winter and two that you can hide somewhere in different locations ...
