This is not at all the type of film I gravitate towards but this was beyond worth the watch. Don’t let the dull colours sway you! It’s a film about pure and precious affection despite one of the most difficult times in Chinese history. It’s also based on a true story. If you’re interested in a depiction of the cultural revolution - give it a shot (with a tissue box next to you 😭). Themes: Romance, Youth, Tearjerker, Cultural Revolution, First Love, True Story Movie: Under The Hawthorn Tree (2010)
