Jet Set Radio Future was an Xbox exclusive over a decade ago. Since the game came out, the entry has faded into obscurity. This game is so much better than it gets credit for, and I wanted to take a different look at the game and why it means so much to me.

I listen to the Jet Set Radio soundtrack almost every day and am constantly adding songs to my own personal JSR like playlist. The lack of respect this game gets hurts my soul but at the same time maybe it's underground for a reason. Maybe if it gets super popular it'll turn into something it's not. That would be the real disrespect. I'm just happy we got what we got.

This game for me was my childhood, the first real game I played. I was stunned by it's style, music and game mechanics. I have fond memories of this game since it was a shared experience with my siblings as I was the youngest and being 4 at the time. Perhaps it was my youth that made this game stand out much more than it would now, but what a game to be my first. I can appreciate how there are people who still care about this game after all this time. Thanks for keeping this memory, this game alive. I'd like this game to at least have one more go; give another generation the same impact

It's definitely one of the most memorable games of my childhood, I actually managed to beat it somehow when I was like 9 or 10 years old. I bought it on Steam a few years ago and I had completely forgotten how hard this game is, I was already raging a few hours in. This game is so crazy, colorful and energetic and the attention to detail in the maps is insane. The soundtrack fits perfectly with the game and hearing it now makes me emotional and reminds me of a more simple and carefree time of my life. It hurts my soul knowing that this game has never really been popular or successful and even more that there will probably never be a remake or a sequel. It's truly unique and there's still nothing quite like it even to this day.

@@Under10Hours The funny thing is I couldn't beat a lot of my favourite games... GTA San Andreas the darned learn to fly... I never got to experience Las Venturas without tanks up my ass. Come to think of it, games from that era and before then were all difficult. They weren't necessarily long video games. The crazy difficulty and not so generous checkpoints would make the games last an eternity. Whereas now games are so easy I mean just look at rewinds in racing games. Long gone are the days of having to restart a whole race after messing up one turn on the final lap...

This is easily my favorite video game ever. I haven't played it since I was 8 but it's pretty much the largest imprint on my gaming life! Everything about this game is so vibrant and compelling, from the characters to the location to the SOUNDTRACK. This game introduced me to Japan, practically. I listened to the entire album of JSFR just two days ago, I'm still deciding my favorite song (it's Teknopathetic lol). I want to become a video game designer so I can create a sequel. Everyone I know that played this game absolutely loved it and I want to have that feeling again for everybody. I hate how SEGA disregards it even though it's easily the best thing they've ever done. I don't want to stay here forever professing my love, so I'll just say this. For some games, I get heavy nostalgia, but for Jet Set Radio Future... it's a part of me.

Thank you so much for sharing! It's amazing that this game has stuck with you for this long because it was life-changing for me as well. From the art style to the music, it's imprinted on my interests too! I always joke that my only goal with everything I do is to build an audience big enough that I can will a third Jet Set Radio game into existence. The fact that there isn't one is a crime that hopefully changes soon. SEGA keeps making references to bringing back old series, and hopefully JSR is in that list if they are serious about it.

With BRC coming out, I hope this renewed interest in the world of JSR gets more people to experience both the original and its successor. It's a travesty that Sega refuses to do anything with the IP outside of cameos and hopefully BRC is every bit as excellent in it's own right, but also makes Sega corporate get off their ignorant asses and fund a new title in the JSR series...

Just played through this game for the first time and holy shit, what a criminally overlooked masterpiece. Truly one of the best and most unique games I've ever played. Thank you for providing a retrospective to help me process me thoughts about this gem, and to educate others!

Seriously one of my all time favorite games. Truly it’s a crime that we haven’t seen a new one or a remake, or for god sake at least a download on a modern console. SEGA why have you forsaken me *waves fists in air*

I got this with my original Xbox and it came with the Sega racing game. I loved playing JSRF more than the racing game. I was probably 5 or 6 when I got it and finally sat down and finished this game when I was in high school. I enjoyed every second of it, even when it seemed difficult as a 5 year old (I just skated around and got Beat at that time). I remember being scared of the alligator in the sewers. In high school, I didn't know what it would do to you if you got too close. I never dreamed you could dance on it until later on watching a let's play LOL. I have recently bought 2 more standalone copies of the game. I don't understand why Sega won't remaster this or make another one. I personally like Future better than the original. I really hope Bomb Rush doesn't disappoint. Great video!

I almost never comment on YT videos but I just wanna say how great of a video this is. I played JSRF as a kid and it still is my favorite game of all time. I tell my friends how much I love this game. I frequently listen to the soundtrack while at work or driving. I'm glad there's other people who feel the same way :). Hopefully we get sequel at some point. P.S. I had never heard of jet set radio live! Thank you so much!!

If SEGA ever figures it out, they have my money the day they announce a remaster. I love this game, it's the first game I ever took the time to use online guides and tried to get every unlock. It mesmerized me as a kid and gave my friends and I something to obsessively work towards. The music still makes me smile the second I hear an intro riff. Why aren't more people talking about this game? Great video, thanks for the nostalgia trip.

This game holds such a special place in my heart and i desperately hope they create a proper sequel to it. It was my first Xbox game ever at the recommendation of my oldest brother. It'll always remind me of being a kid and moving into a new neighborhood. Everything about it is unmatched and unique till this day. It's truly one of the greatest video games I've ever played. I honestly think if it had been released today it would blow up harder than ever. It NEEDS a proper sequel.

Future was actually my first Jet Set Radio game; played a demo on XBox and man, did I spend months upon months looking for the full game... I finally got it, and couldn't have been happier. Only after did I get to play the original on Dreamcast; and at first I struggled a bit with it; Gameplay objectives were different and graffiti mechanics had a twist of their own; took me a while to get into it. ...but man am I glad I percisted with it, cuz personally, I ended up enjoying it more than even Future; it require a lot more strategy and knowledge of each level; and the police put a whole lot more pressure on things; it was glorious. Unfortunately I haven't played it in years; it's much easier to go back to Future than the original, because, all in all, it more accessible overall. I got quite decent at the original, better than I ever was in the second game, but... To think I'll have to relearn everything from scratch, and how many hours that's gonna take, demotivates me a lot... I will always treasure the original and the absurd amounts of fun it provided; but for the time being I'ma replay the sequel, and we'll see if that makes go back to the first one.

a friend gave me his old xbox when i was about 11, it was the first actual console i ever had, my dad found a copy of JSRF, so i played it. i loved the game so much, and i was midway through the game when we sold our xbox for a wii u, i only played JSRF on that console, but i was devastated. over the years i still listened to the soudtrack on roadtrips, and even made my own characters for the universe. recently we got a 360, so finnally played the game to completion! it will always hold a special place in my heart. i still listen to hideki naganuma's work to this day

The first game I ever sank time into, I was in 2nd grade and I got the Sega GT 2000 bundle pack for Christmas! I still have every bit of it in storage and it all works! So many stories and memories over the last 20 years. It really taught me a ton of gaming fundamentals that I still use today. And yesss, the music! I actually used to listen to the entire OST while working for years!

I miss this game and I miss the excitement about music I got from playing it. It's been over 16 years since I first got this game and it's been about 4 years since I've last played it. I still pull up playlists on KZbin to listen to the sound track to this day. I just wish I still owned the soundtrack. Many days spent walking home from school while listening to it. I can even remember when talk about a sequel coming to the Wii and being disappointed when it wasn't going to happen. There was even video of how a spray can would work with the controller. This game was everything to me for a long period of my life. It was the reason I dove into graffiti culture and learned of different artists. It's why I went off to study art and design at a University. I still hold hope that there will be a new game one day. It seems Sega still holds a license to the characters so maybe…just maybe.

This is still one of my favorite games of all time, its just so different than anything that came before and after it. First time I played it I was probably 6 years old and since i first put in the xbox i was in love man. 4 years ago i realized that Jet Set Radio was available to play on Ps3, took me about a week to finish the game and all trophies and since then I was so hoping that they would bring out a updated version for JSRF as well, but I guess they really must have forgotten about the pure awesomeness of that game. Maybe one day they will remember and then I will be there and I will be buying it day one :D Greetings from Germany
