I love how when they were propping up the man who was deceased in his bed, they called him, "sir" even in death and talked to him very comforting. That was heavy. I have a tremendous amount of love and respect for all healthcare, paramedic, nursing, and post mortem workers out there. Thank you. So very much. I tip my hat to each and every one of you.

I worked 45 years in medical care, and for that entire time, I never once heard a nurse or any other caregiver speak to the deceased person in anything but respectful tones and words. It's something I also put into practice when I finally had to help nurses with the patient once their life ended, but when my own parents died (just 13 days apart), and then when my son was killed just a year after Mom and Dad died, it was all I could do to even say their names, the grief was so overwhelmingly intense. But I did help the hospice nurse do post mortem care on Mom (Dad died first), even though I couldn't see anything through my tears. Again, I've never once, in 45 years of doing that kind of work, not once did I ever witness anyone being disrespectful of the deceased person. I'm retired now, so don't have to do that kind of care, but I do hope I"m treated with the same respect when I die.

I felt the same way. I became an EMT in my fifties. At times it was heart wrenching, but I am glad I was able to be there to help others when they needed it. We did see some awesome miracles, people restored to life after cardiac arrest and drug and alcohol over dose. Everyone should learn CPR and first aid. It makes a difference. It truly does.

The way he pauses at the initial questions - particularly the one about has she been assaulted - and then how quickly he loses his temper - yes I know people react differently to emergency situations but he went from 0 (calm) to 60 (angry) in 30 seconds - is a pretty good indication what happened. Unfortunately many women (and men) in abusive households stay there because they believe the abuser "loves" them, they've low esteem and think they can't do any better/anything without the abuser, and/or they're dependent due to whatever reason.

@@elizabethtalley498 I’m glad you’re ok now. I broke my foot in the beginning of December the hospital diagnosed me with a small fracture in my foot and put me in a splint. At my follow up appointment with an orthopedic doctor 3 days later he felt my ankle said he didn’t feel anything and looked at my ankle X-rays, the hospital took both ankle and foot X-rays because of where the pain bruising and swelling was, didn’t look at the foot or look at the other foot to compare the swelling. He pretty much said it was in my head and the hospital was wrong. I couldn’t fit a shoe on for 2 weeks my foot was so swollen. Over 2 months later I still have pain, swelling, some discoloration that comes and goes, and limited motion even though I’ve been doing exercises to try getting motion worse and the motions getting worse instead of better. My insurance isn’t the and not many doctors take it so I’m limited on what I can do I can either go back to the hospital but it’s been 2 months so that’s not really an option, the only orthopedic doctor in my area that my insurance covers is the orthopedic doctor who pretty much said my foot problems was in my head, and I don’t know what immediate care can do since they aren’t really doctors who do follow ups and whatever. America is so behind in times and we need to make our healthcare better.

I'm an expat Brit. I can't tell you life savers how proud of you I am. The kindness and empathy shown by the English puts the US in the shady. The words sweetheart, love, darling and the humour just don't exist here. We British are special and I feel so terribly homesick watching this marvellous film. I've been in the ambulance several times in the US but it's all business, which I'm not complaining about, but how I miss a bit of a reassuring joke, an endearment. There's no one compared to you sweethearts. ❤❤

As a past EMT of 8 years, I can affirm to everything these EMT's and Paramedics feel. There are many ups and downs in the service with losses and saves. It's not just empathy you experience, it is also sympathy as with cases like cancer, almost everyone knows of someone in their lives having or even succumbing to that terrible disease. No one is born into the service of others. The CHOOSE to perform service. We should all be grateful for that! Just another bloke from the U.S. here...

47:00 if you've never heard of it, Blood Bikes is a superb initiative from the NHS. Seriously worth looking up. Volunteer riders have lights and sirens affixed to their bikes, with the standard ambulance colors and all, and there are always riders on call 24/7/365. Keep in mind, these people are volunteers, the only thing the NHS does is pay their fuel and outfits their bikes for emergency transit. As the ambulances are stretched so thin, and the bike paramedics are so desperately needed to assist them, the Blood Bikers quite literally rock up to a donor bank or hospital with supplies they need, load em up into special panniers and cold boxes on their bikes, and go blues and twos all the way to the requesting hospital. I remember a video here on KZbin ages back where a blood biker was able to cross between hospitals in London, in rush hour, in about 12 minutes with platelets, where a car or ambo would have taken nearly an hour and a half. A kid was dying on the operating table and they needed those platelets to stop the internal bleeding. Because of a volunteer, that kid survived. It's a wonderful initiative and I wish something like it existed in North America. We do have BACA, which does help kids, but with the traffic in some cities, a blood biker could quite literally be the link between life and death.

Megan Veal My most sincere prayers and thoughts for you , it’s not just the physical body that has to heal, but the emotional mental health part . The fear is overwhelming and constant I’m sure , and most likely extremely difficult to move past the emotional terrifying reliving of it . Your alive for a reason , and as you try to settle back into a normal routine again I’m sure you’ll find deeper purpose and meaningfulness in your life . I shall keep you in my prayers that you can heal in every aspect of your recovery , and realize you’re special and here for a purpose . Don’t forget to dream, dream big and make it happen. Keep a morning and evening journal of your feelings , don’t read back until a month has passed and see in your own words just how far you’ve come . Keep the journal going ,if only just a few words come at a time ., because the time will come at how far you’ve come along . God bless from Canada 🇨🇦

I have worked for years in hospitals, and except in extraordinary conditions, they are definitely honored. Medical technology can prolong dying, just as it can prolong life, and no one wants to put an terminally ill, failing patient through 3 weeks of procedures, ventilation, meds, etc. if they don’t want it and there is no chance for cure. It is also a myth that there is a financial benefit to providers to over-treat....most hospital physicians and nurses receive a flat yearly salary. The only time I saw a DNR not followed was because the patient, although unable to talk, seemed to change their mind (when asked if they were DNR, they shook their head no although their family had the form, and when asked if wanted to be resuscitated if needed, nodded yes, etc...which is fine, you are allowed to change your mind.)

Ok though I thought that's a more non-emergency case that might be more suited for non-emergency personnel to handle, otherwise I imagine others might accuse the caller of being inconsiderate, by using up emergency resources that could've otherwise been (better ?) used instead towards those who want to be resuscitated. Meanwhile I'm not sure if my country has the concept of 'DNR', but I do recall a countryman who argued that "palliative care must be viewed positively as a way of extending one's lifespan" (but I imagine it's quite hard to convince one in pain to think like that)

I don't know HOW much denial someone must be in to not know. Surely they had an idea but were just in denial. The way the baby moves in the last trimester is not mistakeable for anything else, when they're 5-6lbs and they roll over inside you and kick your cervix, you can't ignore that or not feel it, no matter what. I really feel like everyone who "doesn't know" until the birth actually does know, they're just in heavy denial... denial is a hell of a thing.
