JAmes your so lucky 2 years already. I am in my 4th week. What a terrible experience! Still feel terrible. Am 38 years old, had class 3. Nose seems messed up and what not. You look amazing at 4 weeks. Anyways mate all the best. What jaw exercise video would you recommendd by the way? My Surgeon didnt put alot of emphasis there and it sounds good and makes sense..

Hi Abrarahmad5075, 4 weeks is still early in the process so just hang in there. The worst part is already over (week 1). Your swelling will improve over time. For jaw exercises, check out my vlog #22, week 3 video. I hope that helps! Cheers!

I started feeling like my normal self around 8 weeks. I didn't start lifting again right away I gave my face a little more time. But once you can start getting back into your normal routine again it will be huge for your mental mindset. You are so close and the results look great!

Hey James hows your perception of how you look? Do you like your results or dislike your results? I know you dont notice the changes because it passes by slowly for you but I notice major difference in swelling and even your ability to open your mouth has greatly improved. If i dint know about jaw surgery I wouldnt have noticed anything was off about your speech. In other words there seems to have been major improvement in your ability to open and speak in just a matter of a few days of doing the exercises. Lastly, I would like to say your results seem to be excellent though you still have swelling which should go away. You have perfect harmony in your profile now while still maintaining that strong lower jaw which is considered very attractive.
@jameslsong1
@jameslsong1 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Averagemo, I like my profile now and my jaw is now symmetry. Currently, I dislike that my nose is a little bigger or maybe a little upturn than before but that will go down with swelling. I guess it will take time for my face to adjust. Some parts, when I open my mouth are not even but that will probably get better as it heals (some area are still very stiff). My surgeon did say 5 weeks is still really early in the process so i’m still optimistic. Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate it Averagemo!

It will get better. At around week 10-12 you feel normal again. Your swelling has gone down significantly. I suggest to take a supplement by Thorne research called “neurochondria” it contains a combination of different ingredients which helps with nerve healing such as b12, q10, Phosphatidylserine and a bunch of other stuff.
@jameslsong1

Hi The Singularity! Thank you for the timeline. I'm 5 weeks post-op and my face is still stiff. I would have thought within a month, I would talk normal again but guess I need to wait longer. Also big thanks for mentioning neurochondria. I definitely need something to help with nerve healing. Appreciate the information!

I can definitely relate. It's a tough journey, with ups and downs. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. I know it may feel disappointing at times, especially looking in the mirror at the 4.5 week post-op mark. I've been there. I mean, look at my face right after surgery. I was like a balloon. Then a month later, I still look swollen. But by the week 10-11, you will feel a lot better about your face. I'm currently a little over 12 weeks and I am still see changes everyday. Hang there Michelle!

Looking great James! Thank you for documenting your jaw surgery journey. I started mine last November with SARME surgery (upper jaw expansion). I’ll have upper, maybe double jaw surgery in May or June. As a trumpet player, it sucks not to be able to play concerts right now, but seeing your optimistic attitude is so inspiring. Like you said, “We’ll get through this!”

@@jameslsong1 My pleasure. It's watching stories like yours that keep me going. I also have a Class 3 underbite. What determined you getting double jaw surgery vs upper? My surgeon said I'll need a maxillary advancement of 5mm with a potential, but not likely bilateral sagittal split osteotomy (BSSO).
@jameslsong1
@jameslsong1 2 жыл бұрын
@@seanodonnell5844 I guess it depends on how is jaws are. If your upper or lower jaw is in a good position and straight, then only single jaw surgery is required. It varies based on the individual and different surgeons may have a different opinion.

@@absaultrevino I'm coming up on two months. My speech improved a lot after a month and still improving (albeit slowly). Hey Adam, I'm doing pretty good. Swelling is coming down slow and steady. 12 hours of elastics for 2 weeks eh? That's pretty good man. I'm pretty much full time elastics except when eating and jaw exercises. I moved up the timeline to see my orthodontist due to a loose wire. Initially, it was 3.5 weeks from now but I'm seeing him in a couple of days. How do you feel in terms of speech & stiffness?
