Catfish are (as far as i know) using elektromagnetic signals to hunt for prey. If the elektrosignals are small, then they know its a juice litttle rud or roach. The catfish could have mistaken your camera's for baitfish. since it was only focussed on attacking the camera's. That could also why the catfish didn't attack your lure, since it doesn't give those signals and they could barely see.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure large catfish kill more people per-year than sharks.
