The reset thing is true enough, but i've seen an awful lot of underwater footage of carp totally having it on bottom baits and totally ignoring the pop up sticking out like a sore thumb above the bottom. I've far more confidence in bottom baits. So much so i hardly ever use pop ups at least when fishing in weed free ie on clear bottoms.

Bad hook/bait presentation , too heavy leadweight for the bottomsoil/hookaction , with more than 50gr leadweight use longer rigs because of reducing resistance and longer hooking time.

Yes you can catch them with boilies! Just use liver and fish like mackerel and sardien in your boiliemix and you will get more catfish then carp!
