My favorite filter so far, so the answer is - YES its the best haha. I prefer free standing one though - easier to maintenance😉

I use UG in almost every tank. Some tanks also have a sponge filter, several tanks have 2 sponge filters so I already have a seeded filtration system if I need an emergency tank set up. The back up, already seeded foam filter keeps livestock healthy until the UG is up and running.

How do you avoid water loss from bubble splash? Do you use air stones?

I happen to make my own UGF, only mistake I did was to add sponge below the soil. Now I'm facing frequent Nitrate spike inspite of large water change.

Hi. Will a 12x12x10cm acrylicbox filled up with soil be enough for a 25l tank or should i go with a 12x12x15? With the soil on the bottom of the tank, the 12x12x10 should be enough i guess?

Thank you for the video. I usually use just sponge filters. I do want to try a box type under gravel filter that sits in the corner of the tank.

Thank You for another Video. I used Sponge, HOB, Matten and I am now setting up a Box UGF. Looking forward to drive that PH down a little more.

Is there any drawback since the filter is elevated? It’s just doing water cycling job. But the debris will be at the bottom.. do we have to clean it manually with a suck out tube? I’m planning to make one with a sponge filter.. in it. I love the ugf filter it adds a raise platform for some planting… just find the elevation not doing the filtering as well as traditional filters. Advise pls . Tks

Only running on sponge filters at the moment but planning on running a sponge and UGF box per tank. Great videos.

thx a lot. I used to use only sponges but the pH was a bit to high, thx to ugf I get lower pH

I was wondering if that filter lows KH because my natural water is KH1.5 and to avoid osmosis... did you test that?

Of course it does, its soil

Consider using quartz sand / pool filter sand / beach sand and gravel, as filtration media (in the box UGF - instead of any type soil, to keep it from lowering the optimal hardness, easy way to add carbonate hardness / buffer KH : is to add a pinch of baking soda in the water, and test the increases to figure out how much is needed, it depends on the amount of decaying /acidifying / water softening plant material (leaves and wood, which benefits shrimps ) and your water charge needs. Maybe just a small pinch. personally I would not “clean “/disturb the filter box, but let it age and develop diverse biological filter. One can also build one into a coconut shell (bowl) or glass v/ clay vase with an air bubbler pipe coming out through the top like giant straw . filled with fine sand and or coarse gravel sand and even make it planted to make it” a flowerpot “ where the plants help with cleaning the water.

Hmm. I have been worrying about my PH being too low. It refuses the go above 7. I’m planning to order neos soon. Think they will be happy in the 6.8 ph area?

I'm yet to try UGF. Everything I have is running on sponge filters so far. I think the next tank I set up I will try UGF.

@cheff wallets the most attractive thing to me is the swapping out of substrate. You have tried UGF and don't like them?

Hello, I use sand gravel in my aquariums, and there is no problem .... I have crystal blacks, and they become something like 500 of them - so I had to sell them 10 for 20€.... 5 months ago I started with black Pintos, and black King Kongs too, now they are about 100 of them - I will wait till those 100 multiply to 500 - 700, and then start selling them 5€ or 10 for 40€.... I use only sand gravel and sponge filters + some wood, and planets....

I really like it. Do you think it's necessary to put ceramics at the bottom? If so, how much by your experience?
@ShrimpTimeInt3 жыл бұрын
@@TheAndro5 it can help a bit but not so essencial. The soil itself can be a place to settle bacteria
